Lee tweets so much he’s probably memorized the entire GitHub commit history by heart — which explains why his commit messages are as succinct as 'fix' but his tweets are code novels. Maybe one day, he’ll teach us how to debug his tweet frequency bug!

Successfully transitioning from a key role at Vercel to becoming the face of AI-driven developer education at Cursor, while building an engaged community eager to learn and adapt alongside him.

Lee's life purpose is to elevate the coding community by providing clear, actionable education that helps developers adapt to the evolving landscape of software development, especially with AI. He aims to make developers more productive, confident, and capable of maintaining high-quality code as technology progresses.

Lee believes in strong coding foundations, continuous learning, and embracing AI as a force multiplier rather than a threat. He values clarity, practical knowledge, and community connection, fostering a culture where developers support each other's growth while navigating new tech.

Lee's strengths lie in his ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and engagingly, his deep industry experience, and his commitment to community-building through education and empathy.

Sometimes his technical depth and frequent tweeting (over 14k tweets!) might overwhelm newcomers or those seeking quick, simple answers. Also, his self-deprecating humor could occasionally undercut the authority he commands.

To grow his audience on X, Lee should lean into interactive content like live coding sessions, Q&As focused on AI for developers, and threads that break down complex topics into snackable lessons. Increased collaboration with influencers in adjacent tech spaces could also amplify his reach.

Fun fact: Despite being a proponent of cutting-edge AI in coding, Lee also celebrates the timeless art of tools like vim and has a playful side, often sharing humorous takes like 'frontend is easy' or light-hearted wardrobe decisions post-Vercel.

Just did a fresh macOS install — writing down what I set up: • Superhuman: fast email client • Ghostty: super fast terminal • Neovim: default editor • Raycast: better spotlight • CleanShot X: better screenshot tool • Notion: work notes + calendar • Chrome: default browser • 1Password: best password manager • Spotify: my music hub • Screenflow: lightweight video capture + editor • Screen Studio: another nice video tool The usual web dev stuff: homebrew, node, pnpm, bun. Here's my current neovim plugins: #L739-L770">github.com/leerob/vim-for… I use zsh (default on macOS) with some customizations in my .zshrc, but pretty minimal to keep startup fast. There's a few macOS defaults I change: • Remap caps lock to escape • mkdir ~/Developer (it has a fancy icon in finder!) • Faster keyboard repeats • defaults write -g InitialKeyRepeat -int 15 • defaults write -g KeyRepeat -int 1 • Show hidden files in finder • defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles YES That's it! Anything I'm missing? 👀

If you could join @vercel for one day and change something about the product, what would it be? I'm going to ship some quick wins to improve the developer experience during our internal hackathon next week.

I don't know the right way to talk about burnout, but here we go. Helping build a developer community was not something I ever planned on doing. It kind of just... happened. And it's wonderful. It's a privilege to be part of a community that cares. To share any feedback, good or bad, requires non-zero energy. You could have done a million other things with your day, but you chose to help make a product I work on better. So, for that I'm really grateful. The way people talk online can really affect your mental state. And it's only online, developers are always so nice in person (even when you disagree). You might be thinking: just log off brah, delete the X app. And you're right, I could. But it's kind of part of the job. Hard to build an open source community if you don't respond to people on GitHub, right? It's impossible to build a great product if you're not comfortable receiving negative feedback. So, I try to assume good intent from everyone, stay positive and optimistic, and just keep building. When you spend years building something (a community, an open source project), it's hard not to let issues with the product weigh on you. I have a running list of all the things I want to improve with Next.js and Vercel — and working hard to try to do as many as I can. But sometimes the attacks aren't about the product. They're personal. And that... really sucks. It feels like a disservice to anyone who wants to build an open source community, or share things online, for me to not talk more openly about this. So I'm trying. I've went through phases of "community burnout" over the past four years, and have mostly managed to stay optimistic. I'm sure my wife is sick of me talking about Next.js 🤣 But yeah, I'm a little burnt out. The only thing you can really do is time take to reset. Luckily, I have some time off coming up soon. Looking forward to that. So yeah, if you're in this boat, my DMs are open if you want to talk about it.
