Did I see this right. The CEO of Zomato is hiring a Chief of Staff. It's an *unpaid* position for all of the first year, where the applicants needs to pay 2M INR (about $24,000) Tell me you are hiring someone who comes from money without telling me you are doing this.

Interesting: Meta created React Native. It’s used (with components at least) in their flagship apps: Facebook (iOS, Android), Instagram (Meta Quest), Messenger (desktop). Google created Flutter. And yet none of their flagship apps use it (Gmail, YouTube, Maps, Calendar).

This is what micromanaging from the top looks like, when the CEO *thinks* they can tell the source of the problem and how to fix it, just by looking at it. It’s incredibly frustrating when it happens to you. It’s rare to see it this public. Good luck to engineers in the weeds.

How is it that Atlassian builds tools that: - SO MANY people use - SO MANY people dislike (JIRA, Confluence. Previously also HipChat) They are defying the conventional wisdom for business success that starts with "build something people will love"

A reason I am anti "web3" is that the unregulated nature of this space means that non-accredited investors (aka people who are not rich) put money they cannot afford to lose. Then lose it in schemes that collapse, enriching founders & VCs in the process. People like these:

What is happening at Sonos is hard to believe. The company released a new app that is a big regression in reliability, usability and functionality vs the old one. Sales are falling thanks to the new app. There is no quick fix. They want to re-release the old app... but cannot

All it takes for a company to lose you for life is to fool you once. I signed up to a monthly Adobe subscription, only to realized it was a *yearly* one paid monthly (?!) when I tried to cancel, and Adobe did not let me. That was it: me done with Adobe. I cannot recommend them.

From a CTO at a startup: "We interview devs by giving them a task to build an app on the spot, from scratch (2x BE endpoints, some frontend.) They can use AI, ofc - and we dig into why they did this or that. What is surprising: 14/15 devs from Meta failed this screening."

On one end, the Anthropic team is a massive user of AI to write code (80%+ of all code deployed is written by Claude Code). They ship amazingly fast. On the other hand, seeing these beyond terrible reliability numbers suggests there might be a downside to all this speed:

Is there a software project anywhere close in impact to that of Linux? It silently operates most things in the physical world (servers, Android phones, smart TVs, car chargers, aerospace systems, government systems etc) Oh and git is now the de facto source control across most of tech (git was the Linux community “scratch their own itch” for source control, built for their own needs as open source)
