Mango hands out SFX like Oprah hands out cars, 'You get a riser! You get a whoosh!', and somehow still needs you to reply 'SFX' like it’s a secret handshake. Your HD folder naming convention is 'actually_final_final_v5', and yes, we all know it isn’t.

A single SFX giveaway tweet that reached 134,368 views, 3,252 likes and 981 retweets, turning a free pack into a community moment and a clear proof of concept for audience-building.

To demystify sound design and editing workflows, empower other creators with practical tools, and build a supportive community where people level up together by sharing what actually works.

Mango believes in open sharing over gatekeeping, learning-by-doing, and that a great edit is as much about sound as it is about vision. They value honest proof (show your work), generosity, and rapid iteration, ship, refine, repeat.

Generosity (gives high-value resources for free), clear technical authority in sound design and editing, strong CTA skills (drives engagement and follows), consistent content production, and proven ability to create viral posts.

Gives away a lot which can make monetization tricky, risk of burnout from high output, occasional signal dilution from too-frequent posts, and may lack a clear funnel from free value → paid offering.

Pin a single ‘Starter Pack’ tweet linking to a simple landing page or Discord signup; convert frequent 'RT + comment' asks into an automated delivery (form + email) to capture leads. Launch a weekly mini-series (e.g., 'Sound Design Sunday') with short native videos showing before/after clips and a 3, 5 tweet breakdown thread. Use X Spaces for live Q&A and collabs with other creators, and tease paid deep-dive workshops while keeping an always-free micro-resource to retain goodwill. Track top-performing tweet formats and double down, short video + clear CTA performs best. Finally, collect emails from freebies to build a product funnel so generosity scales without burning you out.

Fun fact: Mango once gave away a full SFX pack in a single tweet that hit 134k+ views and 3.2k likes. They’ve tweeted ~9.8k times, have ~9.6k followers, and regularly posts sound-design breakdowns and a free video-editing course.

Becoming a Full-Time Video Editor (FULL GUIDE) This is THE MOST Valuable Tweet on my page, I cover EVERYTHING you need to know about The Video Editing Space in this Tweet Let's get started. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Stage #1: The Basics - Learning Editing - Finding Your Style and Niche - Creating a Portfolio I highly recommend learning Premiere Pro because it’s easy to learn and has almost everything you need to become a successful video editor. I’ve curated a YouTube playlist with all the videos you need to learn Premiere Pro as quickly as possible: - youtube.com/playlist?list=… As a beginner, don’t worry about finding your style or sticking to a specific niche. Just focus on what interests you and start editing. Make practice edits, expand your skill set, and try new things. The more experience you gain, the better. Once you have some videos to show, create a portfolio. You can use: - A YouTube Playlist: - youtube.com/playlist?list=… - A Website: - mangotaz.com I have a tutorial on my Twitter profile showing how to create a portfolio from scratch: - x.com/mangoster/stat… ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Stage #2: Finding Clients - Building a Personal Brand - Cold Outreach (Email, Instagram, Twitter) - Networking & Referrals Your brand is your most important asset as a freelancer—it’s your identity. A strong personal brand that displays professionalism and lists your achievements is the easiest way to get leads as a video editor. I grew my Twitter account from 400 to over 5,000 followers in a few months, allowing me to connect with industry leaders like Faze Apex, Sneako, Nonstop, Musa, Hxsain, and more. To build a reputable presence on Twitter: - Showcase Your Work - Interact with Fellow Editors - Post Client Feedback & Results - Avoid Engagement Farming, Drama & Unnecessary Posting Check out my in-depth guide on growing your Twitter account here: - notion.so/Module-1-Your-… There are three ways to get clients as a video editor: - Inbound (clients reach out to you) - Outbound (you reach out to clients) - Referrals (others refer you to clients) Most of my clients came from inbound leads and referrals, but cold outreach is also crucial. Two of my long-term clients came through cold outreach. As a beginner, cold outreach is your best friend. Don’t overthink it. Just reach out to potential clients, introduce your services, share examples, and ask if they’re interested. Here’s the framework I use: “Hi, I’ve edited for X, Y, and clients before and was wondering if you’d be interested in long-form/short-form video editing? Here are a few examples of my work (insert your work closest to what the client might be looking for).” As you build connections and a personal brand on Twitter, you’ll start getting inbound leads. The easiest way to get inbound leads is by posting more work, showcasing behind-the-scenes of your editing process, and putting yourself out there. Clients will see this and DM you if they’re interested in your services. Building the right connections is crucial. Support other editors and be genuine. Most editors don’t mind interacting with others if they’re cool and good at what they do. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Stage #3: Maintaining Clients - Frequent & Clear Communication - Under-Promising & Over-Delivering - Being Honest The key to maintaining strong relationships with clients and scaling your income is valuing your clients and your work. Clients aren’t looking for the best editor; they want someone reliable. To improve communication, follow this framework: When starting a project, discuss: - Their preferred style - Expected delivery timeline - Payment terms - Preferred payment method While working on a project, ensure you: - Share updates daily - Keep the client informed - Avoid making unrealistic promises After delivering the project, ask about: - Their thoughts on the project - Their overall experience working with you Under-promising and over-delivering; If you think you can finish a project in three days, tell the client four to five days and deliver your best work in three days. Maintaining a good reputation is crucial. Honesty is also important. If you can’t meet a deadline, let the client know. They’ll appreciate honesty and reliability. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Stage #4: Increasing Your Income - Consistent Cash Flow - Charging Your Worth - Changing Your Mindset Here’s the three-step framework I’ve used to increase my rates from $35 to over $1200 per video: Step 1: Consistent Cash Flow Steady cash flow is essential. Stick with one client for consistent work, even if the pay is low initially. Treat this client or agency like a job while looking for better-paying clients. Deliver your best work to build client testimonials. Step 2: Knowing Your Worth You can make as much money as you want with video editing. Clients will pay for reliability and quality. Increase your prices slowly to avoid losing clients. Raise rates for each new client you approach. Step 3: Letting Go of the Scarcity Mindset Your earning potential is not limited. Turn down offers if you feel you’re worth more. Trust in your skills and wait for better opportunities. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Stage #5: Productivity & Time Management - Having a Routine - Deep Work Sessions - Improving Your Efficiency These are the two things almost EVERYONE struggles with (including me) but after finding out about deep work and maintaining a routine that allows me to make the most of my time, I can confidently say that both of these things are actually pretty easy People's focus goes through cycles. These include the "attentional blink", a short break after focusing hard, and the "ultradian rhythm", 90-120 minute cycles of being alert and less alert. To work best, match hard work with times of peak focus and plan breaks To find out more about Deep Work and Ultradian Rhythm, you can watch this video: - youtube.com/watch?v=ZOixZ-… I aim for three 90-minute deep work sessions a day: one before Duhr, one before Asr, and one after Asr before Maghrib. This routine works well for me as a Muslim, with breaks for prayer helping me refocus. However, this represents my ideal day, and not every day is perfect. On some days, I might not get any work done, while on others, I accomplish an entire week's worth of tasks. Editing can be a time-consuming task, but it's important not to let it consume you to the point of neglecting other aspects of your life. Life is more than just making money. Take care of your health, cherish relationships, and get enough sleep. Success is important, but remember that material wealth will never make you feel full as a human being. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- If you liked this post and want to see more then follow me @mangoster & retweet this to help out your fellow editors ❤️
