I was able to sit down and have a conversation with Bob Ferguson prior to the election on his campaign to become Washington's next governor. I got to speak about how to invest, develop, and support our communities. I got to speak about how we could work together to center black and marginalized voices. I got a commitment to find more spaces to work on the challenges we have as a state. I got to speak to the successes we've been a part of and how we can engage at a city, county, and state level to double down on the success and really expand the impact. As we move into this post-election world, I am focused on engaging with the governor in the future to make good not only on the promises, but on the outcomes that people deserve.

There's a common misconception that government is a slow, immovable beast.  But in my experience at Scholar Fund, that couldn't be further from the truth.  The desire for change and innovation is there—what's missing is the right partnership.

For too long, the nonprofit sector has been judged by metrics that don't tell the whole story.  Overhead ratios and short-term outputs dominate conversations, but at Scholar Fund, we're on a mission to change that narrative. We believe it's time to redefine what success looks like in our field.

Mentors can change your life.  I’m sure you’ve had various mentors that have made huge differences in the life you now lead.  My life was transformed by a teacher who saw my potential and invested in my success.  At Scholar Fund, we believe every student deserves that kind of champion.  That's why we're building robust mentorship programs that connect students with caring individuals who can guide, support, and inspire them to reach for their dreams.

We've raised over $628 million in cash assistance during critical times.  But for us, it's not about the amount. It's about the lives transformed, the families supported, the dreams made possible.  Numbers tell a story, but impact is personal.

Innovation The status quo of slow, complex processes leaves too many in need waiting for vital aid. There had to be a better way. Which is why one of Scholar Fund’s missions is to reimagine how social services are delivered.

Leadership requires creating spaces where collective wisdom can emerge.  As an engineer turned nonprofit founder, I've learned that the most powerful solutions come from bringing diverse perspectives together.  Every challenge is an opportunity to learn, grow, and reimagine what's possible.  True innovation happens when we listen more than we speak. And one thing I’ve learned from my time in leadership:  Everyone has something valuable to contribute.

Education is our primary vehicle for change.  By helping students: - Access college - Win scholarships - Find their dream jobs We're breaking generational cycles of economic limitation.  One student's success creates ripples of transformation.  We see education as more than an individual achievement—it's a pathway to community empowerment.  Each student we support becomes a catalyst for broader social change.

In 2022, our revenue was primarily from program services, with over 96% of our funding going directly into community support.  We're transparent about our finances and committed to maximizing every dollar for impact.  We believe that financial integrity is crucial to maintaining trust with the communities we serve.  Our commitment to transparency goes beyond reporting. The goal is creating genuine accountability.
