What's Trending on X about Science

Last week we hosted Deep Tech Dinner with founders and researchers tackling some of the hardest problems in their fields. Peter Thiel Fellows, Stanford, CMU, Harvard, MIT, UPenn, Princeton researchers and founders all came together. After coming back from a one-month sabbatical visiting frontier labs, I wanted to bring ambitious builders working on the frontier into one room. Everyone who came was genuinely exceptional and mission-driven. We'd talk about "stochastic dynamics of interacting multi-particle systems through entangled Schrödinger..." or "peptide-conjugated NP systems for CNS-targeted delivery using receptor-mediated..." and it didn't feel weird. Rather than superficially asking "what are you working on?", every convo sparked a curiosity we couldn't stop nerding out about. thank you my friends and new friends for coming to the dinner! And investors for making this dinner happen. ...

All cancers will be curable by 2030s Immunotherapy is changing the game. Treatments that activate your immune system (like checkpoint inhibitors and CAR-T) are already producing long term remissions in cancers that used to be near certain death sentences. Early detection is getting radically better. Liquid biopsies (blood tests that detect cancer early) could catch tumors before they even form symptoms, which massively increases cure rates....

Sam's real skill is keeping an $852 billion company culturally small enough that two people can still build a new product category in their spare cycles. Capital and compute are table stakes at this scale. This is the actual moat. Peebles describes Sora starting as "a tiny two-man effort." That's the land-shark-swimming-past-cacti moment. No executive committee approved it. No quarterly OKR listed it. Two researchers saw something in the scaling curves and Sam let them chase it. Almost no other frontier lab gets this right....
