had the MOST INSANE CALL IN MY ENTIRE AGENCY LIFE. Turned them down over the call after 10 min of talking to the CEO. Absolutely bonkers. zero trust. Jesus Christ, if I worked there, I would quit tomorrow.

I turned 39 today. Here are some things I wish I had done differently: 1) Had kids earlier. I had my first when I was 31/32 & if I could go back, I would have kids at 30. We have a saying, ' Kids bring their wealth with them' - having kids changed our lives for the better. 2) Be more patient. Anything meaningful takes time to build. Earlier in my career, I usually quit after 2 years because I got bored (except for one startup I stayed at for 5ish years). Building/doing anything worthwhile is a minimum commitment of 7-10 years. 3) Gotten married earlier. I owe a lot to my parents, but my wife has made me a better person. She's stuck with me through some very, very difficult times (we had zero money at one point, literally) & I got fired from a job 1 month before our wedding, so we used our entire savings (12K at the time) on a modest budget wedding (shoutout to Sean for being our photographer that started a friendship) 4) Be realistic on social issues. I was young and idealistic, but I've become more pragmatic as I've gotten older. Social & Political issues are nuanced. There's a lot more grey than black & white in this world. From the ME to homelessness & the drug pandemic in Canada - the answer is complicated, but liberal wishful thinking doesn't help. An example is the Canadian immigration system - yes, it is broken, but international students subsidize the low-cost education for Canadians. But we did have a huge influx of temporary labour that has caused systems to break down. There's a lot more I could say, but I am going to go enjoy the sunny day in the middle of Dec here in Vancouver. I am grateful for everything I have & to be lucky enough to call myself a Canadian while I watch with a sense of tragedy what is happening to the country of my birth where my family still lives.

Agency ownership stuff that doesn’t get talked about enough Had 2 people that didn’t work out and it hurt. Invested a lot in them but coaching and feedback couldn’t make up for fundamentals. On the bright also just an absolute rockstar who managed paid media for a high growth tech company in Europe accepted our employment offer. And had a tough but necessary conversation with a client who gave some hard but ultimately fair feedback and we’ll work our ass off to deliver. Running a business is flying by the seat of your pants half the time but doing well so far. 🤞

Here's the journey - Prospect landed on LP via Google Search Ad - Downloaded a PDF resource - Got sales email with said resource & some additional information - Got a second follow-up to see if they were interested in disco - Meeting booked. - Opp Created & Closed Won. Timeline - 3months Most B2B companies discount 'low intent' leads because they are never qualified and the content is too TOFU. An intern downloading a PDF about the best XYZ will never turn into the pipeline. But a senior IC is downloading a product sheet or related content @ a qualified account. That's a different story.

Meanwhile companies are building millions in pipeline by offering $200 gift cards over inMail Ads on LinkedIn and running targetted keywords on Bing and Google search and optimizing for SEO and sending thoughtful emails and writing actually useful content

Everyone wants to do brand marketing but I can’t find any good examples of what a “brand” campaign is. Is it a OOH ad? Podcast? Event? Content? Send me all your examples please. Happy to quote you when I eventually write something about the topic as I must do.

Beef Marketing - I define it as an upstart 'picking a fight' with a 60-pound gorilla in the space to get eyeballs to themselves. For example, Apollo often 'picks a fight' with Zoominfo because Zoominfo is the biggest & most widely used company in the sales space for contact/phone data. So Apollo uses them to get attention to themselves. Or Retention / R2B folks trash-talking 6sense What you got LinkedIn?
