But if you're gonna self-host on a VPS, you better know what you're signing up for. 👇 Here are 11 things you must understand before you ditch managed services: 1. Firewalls (UFW/iptables) – Default open ports = hacked in hours. 2. SSH hardening – Disable root login, use keys not passwords, change default port. 3. Reverse proxy (NGINX/Caddy) – Don’t expose your app directly to the internet. 4. TLS/HTTPS – Let's Encrypt is "free", but you need to renew & rotate certs. 5. DDoS reality – One flood & your $5 VPS is toast. WAF is not optional. 6. Backups – If you don’t have automated backups, you don’t have data. 7. Monitoring + alerting – You won’t notice downtime unless you set it up. 8. Log management – Disk fills up fast when you ignore logs. 9. I'm doing something every SaaS founder says is stupid. Adding lifetime pricing for Eternal Vault. $199. Pay once. Done forever. When you look at is, as a consumer its <1$ per month! People might say: "You're leaving money on the table" "This won't scale" "Subscriptions are the only model" Well, I did the math. It's profitable. I just don't care about maximizing revenue. Your will and final wishes shouldn't be a recurring bill you and your family manages after you're gone. Some products are meant to work once and work forever.

Started working on an internal tool to get better observability in background jobs like queues and schedulers that I run for Eternal Vault. There are automated alerts as well which notifies me when a given scheduled job or queue have failed.
