A friend of mine did this to crack every single interview he ever took. Whenever an interview started, even before the interviewer would speak he would start by asking them a question as a part of conversation. Like "Oh, hi! We've not spoken before. Who are you, what do you do?" and this one line changes the entire power dynamic. Now the interviewer is answering the questions. My friend would then go on to ask a few more questions like "what kind of skills are you testing me for" or "how do you want me to answer". And this sets him up as a charismatic leader who can ask questions and answer them as well. And people love this. Small talk is a life hack if done properly istg.

Software Engineering isn't the highest paying. It doesn't even make the top paying. There is one career path that will lead you to the most money and life. And it's not a path anyone can just pick up and learn in a few months. It takes years of decimation, networking and people's skills. And AI can't replace it. I'm of course talking about sales. As a career path if you can get good at sales you can weasel your way into any industry on the planet. The second you learn how to sell problems is the moment you are set for life. I'd love to see AI try and replace salesmen.

Some horrors I've seen this hackathon > Students putting vector embeddings in SQLite > Someone spending $200 on AWS because they forgot to turn off their instance > A team tried using Express JS with Flask > A team miscommunicated and built two frontends and forgot the backend. > Pushing all the ORM models in one file > Cursor deleted all the model pkl files the team spent hours building (and they didn't realize they could just undo the delete) And way way more.

Blessed are those who failed JEE and college entrances. Facing failure early is the biggest most valuable lesson in life. And you faced it as a fragile 17 year old. Imagine the hunger and drive to prove yourself to the rest of the world at such a young ripe age.

I'm a final year student of the program. I also worked in their Student Place Com for 2 years. Some facts about the program people don't know > Only the top 1% of students pass this degree within 4 years. 15k students were admitted in the first batch. So far, only 800 odd students have graduated. > The current GATE DA topper is from this degree, so are a majority of the top rankers. The other degree toppers are publishing papers abroad. > This degree has absolute grading, and not relative grading like most people think. Which means if you score low, you get an abysmal grade. > All of the course content (recorded + live) is taught by PhD students from IITs or the Professors themselves. > The top 1% of students get to study on campus just like the BTech students. > All of the papers are either in the JEE Advanced pattern (no negative marking) or are written theory exams. You are expected to write all of the exams in a single day (4 hours for 4 papers - each 100 marks) > In the 3rd and 4th years, every course has an associated project. Which is 30% of your grade. If you flunk the project, you fail. I won't go as far as to say that BS students get the same level of education as a BTech from IITM. No. But I'd say anyone passing this degree isn't something to sneeze at. Ignore some of the Foundation students, tho, they usually never make it past the first year.

Why do MTechs from IITs get paid so less? Like they are also IITians? Aren't they? If companies just want BTech IIT grads they should start hiring based on JEE rank instead of college or gpa. Really pathetic state of affairs in the hiring sector rn.

Interviewed an IITian for a product marketing position on my team and it was a nightmare. I told them that I was very unsatisfied of their answers, and out of spite they searched for my LinkedIn in between the call. They said "I don't think you know the answers to the questions you are asking, since you are an engineer". The audacity someone needs to have to do that is something I have never seen before. Needless to say I rejected them on the spot. Really wish they put their mouth where the money was.

According to society I'm a failure > I failed to sell my first book well > I failed to get into IIT or BITS > My first startup idea failed > I failed getting into FAANG, the Big 4 > Failed to get a good gpa > Failed to get into GSoC > Failed to stay in tech > Failed to get rich before 22 But what people fail to see is that. I'm happy. I make good money. I have great friends. I put food on the table. For the rest of my life I will be tagged by society as a failure who didn't do these things.
