🥂 So it's the day 1 of Developing a Blogging Platform The entire day was spent designing the database structure. Instead of jumping straight into database development, I decided to structure the entire class diagram first. There will be two databases: 1. A database that stores core data 2. A database that stores analytics data Rather than using a GUI tool, I chose to design the database class diagrams with PlantUML. It’s simple, fast, and works well inside VS Code. No UI, just code. Felt like a developer :D I initially thought the DB structure could be designed in just a few hours, but it ended up taking the whole day. What to do, it’s part of the requirements. 🚀 How I self-hosted my SaaS with just $12, for a year (still running 🔥) 1. Bought a .com domain for $12 using @namedotcom (I always use PRIVACYPLEASE promo code to get free privacy). 2. Created a simple waitlist to validate the idea. (used HTML page + Google Sheet to collect emails) 3. Collected initial users through the waitlist. 4. Built a static HTML marketing + pre-launch page and hosted it for free on GitHub Pages. 4. Applied for AWS Activate with that HTML page → got $1000 in credits. 5. Applied for Microsoft for Startups @msft4startups with the same HTML page → got $1,000 in credits for Azure. 6. Started development using only @awscloud infrastructure: → S3 for storage → SES for emails → EC2 for servers → RDS for PostgreSQL DB → AWS Bedrock for AI, Nova Lite for testing, Claude Sonnet for production. 7. Automated the entire infrastructure with @PulumiCorp 8. Set up payments with @polar_sh 9. Setup backup storages and databases in Azure. 💰 Total spent: $12 (for the domain) ⚡️ Funding runway: ~1 year from credits 🧠 Biggest investment: my time to build. I’ll be sharing more of these tips. So, it's Day 4 (Just the start) of Build in Public, my blogging platform! Yesterday, I completed the wireframe and a small waitlist. Now it's time to move on to the mockup design phase. But before that, I decided to create a color palette. Here’s what I did: First, I created the main semantic colors for the light mode. Then I used a tool called Leonardo Color, I believe it's provided by Adobe (Fix me if I'm wrong). I discovered that tool while doing some research. After experimenting with different combinations, I finalized the main semantic colors. Using those, I created tints and shades with Leonardo :D Just like that, I designed the Light Color Palette. Leonardo can also be used to generate a Dark Color Palette from the light colors, I chose #0c0c0c as the dark background color and adjusted the theme accordingly. Now both the Light and Dark theme palettes are completed and finalized! These are the colors you’ll see when the platform launches :D #buildinpublic #UIDesign #Saas #founder

Hey, I have a question. For a previous @nextjs project, I used Node.js, but I’m thinking about switching to @bunjavascript or @deno_land for my next project. This would only be for the frontend with Next.js, not using a JS backend in the same app. I rarely see anyone using Bun or Deno for their Next.js apps. Is anyone actually using these? Are there any drawbacks? #buildinpublic

Day 0 of the Blogging Platform I think it’s okay to skip the idea research part for now and move straight to the project planning. The first thing I did was plan the entire project, not just the MVP version. I wrote down a list of all features, both functional and non-functional. Then I started removing items from the functional features list point by point. I didn’t touch the non-functional features because even for an MVP, things like security and performance are essential. The next step was researching tools and technologies. In a previous project, I used Next.js heavily, wrote arounf 80K lines. For this project, I decided not to use a framework like that. So the final decisions are: Frontend: React + TypeScript with Bun Backend: Go, PostgreSQL, and ClickHouse #buildinpublic #blogging #saas
