here’s my story. last august, i recorded an interview with yano, founder of blockworks. i remember being genuinely thrilled for this one. in my head, i thought, this might be the biggest episode i’ve done. we shot it on the ferry from wall street to manhattan. back then, i lived in williamsburg. i’d wake up at 5am, take the first ferry out, and use those 25 mins to prep for the pod. i was nervous for this one. some episodes don’t teach you what to build. they teach you who to become. this was one of those. it was an unusually windy morning. but we pressed record anyway. the conversation was so gripping that after the ferry ride, we just kept going. we kept shooting. we kept talking. we ended up recording for over an hour. on the way back, yano said: “this concept’s dope and that’s one hell of a commitment. but does this mic work in all this wind?” i had recorded on ferries before, never had an issue. so i naively said, “yeah yeah, this one’s a beast. my friend recommended it to me” then i sat in the uber, buzzing with excitement, opened the video and my heart sank. no sound. one mic had failed completely. the backup picked up a bit, but the wind had shredded it. i tried everything. different tools, software, even reached out to a friend who's a professional musician. but if you've ever edited audio, you know. there's no real fix for wind. i finally texted yano. told him what happened. he replied: “all good brotha, shit happens. anyone in the podcast game has been there lol. next time you’re here, we’ll rip again.” it’s been a year. we’re still due for the redo. since then, i’ve recorded multiple episodes that were loved by ct. life lessons with haseeb, the mantra post-mortem, inside the mind of multicoin... but i still come back to this one in my head. why am i sharing this now? because somewhere along the way, in telling everyone else’s story, i forgot to share mine. the itch to experiment with unique formats. the last-minute reschedules. the audio fails. the trial and error of building something from scratch. i’ve always taken pride in how cryptotown narrates stories. but now, i want to share the story behind the narration too. i used to obsess over the perfect shot, the cleanest clip. but i’ve realized i can’t control everything. and maybe i don’t need to. my dms are filled with people telling me how much they’ve learnt from the pod. at every conference, i run into someone who’s been watching since the early days. those moments never get old. they mean the world to me. they’re what keep me going. grateful for y’all. cryptotown is growing. cryptotown is evolving.
