Putting aside questions of Israel, Judaism, and Jewish jokes, there’s something intensely hateful about Dave Portnoy and Barstool culture. I’m not even adverse to sports commentary; I enjoy it, in fact. But everything I’ve seen and read from Barstool is genuinely “toxic masculinity”: mediocre, fat doofuses, who lack any capacity for insight, even about sportsball. They emit their shallow emotions about their favorite childhood teams, and represent what it’s like to be middle-age cretins, who watch porn, eat pizza, get drunk, and yell at the TV. They present an image of “Whiteness” that is so disturbing and depressing, human extinction seems like a viable option in comparison. They have become millionaires by peddling slop to readers who are, somehow, more detestable slaves than themselves.

Give ‘em hell, chronic inflammatory response syndrome! Enough is enough!

Punching down is a bad look. This woman might very well be going through some personal struggles that sparked her nasty comment on Facebook. Beyond that, people like this aren’t really influencing the broader culture. There’s no point in attacking them beyond pure sadism.

The “Haitians eating cats” thing is utterly stupid. It’s crude and easily debunked and thus easily turned around and used to make the Right look bad. What’s interesting is that in 2016 a phenomenon like that would have been promoted solely by 4chan and the Alt-Right. Today, it’s echoed by Ted Cruz, JD Vance, and Ashley St. Claire, to name a few. The Alt-Right methodology and “vibe” has been fully integrated into the GOP. At this point, online racism is just another chapter in the “Southern strategy.”

I overestimated Biden’s nostalgic appeal. I underestimated Kamala’s likability or at least meme-ability. I thought the JD Vance pick was bad, but I underestimated just how bad. I thought the assassination attempt on Trump would define the election; instead it got washed down the news cycle. You have to recalibrate when you get things wrong. The Democrats are going to win.
