What will work is looking at how we integrate work and life. Through looking at integration over balance you will be happier over all and burnout will reduce. Thoughts?

This for every employee and hire that you make within your team. Just because they are good doesn’t mean you should have them in your team, if they are toxic. Toxic team members ruin teams and their ability to deliver well.

I think we are in a ‘busyness’ phase where clearing 150 emails is considered a good days work. Rather than focussing on 1 or 2 things that will have a big difference. This has a massive impact on everything not just from a business sense but also your happiness working. Anyone else seeing this?

Leadership is a skill. Some people are exceptional at it. Others it takes time to learn and develop. But if you focus on developing you’ll begin to notice the change. To start self-reflect on you. 1. What are you great at? 2. What do you need to develop? 3. What are your blind spots? Then spend the next 30 days focussing on either a blind spot or a development area. See what happens, monitor through feedback.

As a new leader the list of things you need to in your role are long. Demands put on you are high. You can feel like you need to move at pace and do things quickly and not stop. That’s what I did and I hit burnout quickly. In a society where everything is instant pausing is a good thing. I recently purchased a stove top kettle, it takes longer to boil but it taught me the beauty in slowing down and focussing on me for a moment. As a leader you can’t lead well unless you know yourself. Today take five minutes and reflect on: 1. What is the one thing you are really good at or known for? 2. What are your blind spots? What are the things you ignore but know you shouldn’t? 3. What’s the one thing you can do today that helps you focus more on your strengths and away from your blind spots?

As a leader how we spend our time is more important than we think. We may think something is really urgent but we fail to ask the right questions to understand what is the actual need and why something is being asked. To be a really effective leader you need to be spending more time asking questions and then pointing the team in the right areas for focus.

As a leader did you know that you impact your teams mental health just as much as their spouse? In an article (cited below) it says that to get a happier team you need to start with your self-care. By doing so you set an example for your team. Your team will copy your actions from what they see. To start building winning teams with great resilience start with your own self-care. Simple things like: - Go to the gym - block time for family time - if traveling be conscious when you travel for business, family friendly times - get starting with breathing / meditation exercises - go for walks Anything else?

Leaders I’ve coached one of the (many) I’ve noticed is the delay in making decisions on under performers within the team. As a leader your team are looking to you to set the bar on performance. This means you need to hold people accountable when they aren’t meeting the bar. With performance you need to move quick and put in place structure that will help them or help you to decide quickly it’s time to exit. Any delays with managing performance and this will have a much bigger impact on your team than you think. You’ll lose trust and drive disengagement. Steal my sheet below 👇 for managing performance. Use this list as a new leader to look at areas to develop and grow. Consistently review and focus on areas that you can improve on. Build a plan and make sure you get feedback as you do.
