I think I hate this shoe so much that I want to buy it

Just popped up on my feed but literally made a post about this the other day. Boxers/fighters are the purest form of athletes on this planet. They’ve understood running slow (“road work” as it’s called) for decades as a tool for growing aerobic base & recovery, along with going the distance in fights. There’s a reason why Floyd is the one of the goats. Keep it simple out there.

Nothing beats fall running. All your hard work in the summer heat pays off for smooth sailing in cooler weather. Warm sun, cool air, can’t lose.

My theory is nutrition. Almost every kid (15-21) running competitive before ~2020, and all the way back to 70s, was under-fueled. Strong runners these kids are.

Runners as a whole are very down to earth, calm, and smart people. It’s a byproduct of being alone with your thoughts in a low aerobic zone for multiple hours per week. Turns into hundreds and thousands of hours essentially meditating when stretched across a long timeframe.

Not to joke, but I’m serious. Try endurance.

Was thinking about the best “running related” moments of 2024. This one might take the cake. Everyone following on X, waiting for one guy to post an update, all finding out at the same time she finished with like 30 seconds to spare on the cutoff.

I could watch Kilian run downhill all day, poetry in motion. Athleticism + Foot/Eye coordination. For those that haven’t ran technical-downhill before, it’s akin to smashing leg day then having to walk down a flight of stairs. Quads burning and shaking.

Okay starting creatine again and staying on it this time. Best first thing in the morning or with first meal?

FYI the only differences between high end barefoot/minimalist shoes and vans slip-on are: 1) Marketing (apologies if this is your first time hearing this—you’re a good consumer). 2) ~$115

If you wear Nike Pegs or Brooks Ghosts I immediately assume you’re a based king. Especially ghosts, just blasting 12mm of heel-to-toe drop in all of these people’s faces that endorse zero drop. Not a care in the world.

"Zero drop" shoes are insane because they appear to be one of the most legitimately dangerous pieces of training equipment with the potential to gigafry your Achilles tendon for the sake of “natural running” to access a 6/10 platform with zero performance benefits but are exclusively used by literal turbonormies who unironically want to like "run like a native tribe who hasn’t seen a shoe in their life” and basically get oneshotted by them.

Have you tried going for a run on a Saturday morning and saying hello to everyone you pass?

A rare exception and highlight to the term “hybrid athlete” I’ve seen is Nick Bare. Left is 2018 at his first marathon: time was 3:59 (9:07 min/mile) Right is 2 days ago and he is planning to run < 2:45 (6:15 min/mile) this coming Saturday. Based on some simple data, a 2:44 marathon puts you in some elite company % and #’s wise, but doesn’t exactly qualify you as “elite” in terms of competitiveness. (The term “elite” triggers many running community folks - usually reserved for below 2:30). Semantics aside, we’ll call him a great non-competitive amateur runner at this point. It’s insanely impressive for an amateur runner with no college or xc background to do this, and not to mention his size compared to other 2:44 marathoners you’ll see. I enjoy seeing shit like this and how it makes runners half the size of him mad. (It’s a skill and work-ethic issue, not anything else). I’d venture to guess he could run around a 2:35 if he shed some more weight, but I’m no expert and it’s probably not worth it to him.
