You can't change your behavior by changing your behavior. When you advise someone to "exercise consistently, make more money, develop meaningful relationships" you're basically describing the byproduct of treating their anxiety/depression. You aren't giving them a solution.

There's this idea in Taoism that when you're off your "ming", your destiny/true path, you'll constantly meet resistance in life. Everything will feel like a struggle and the more stick to the course, the more shit you'll attract. Once you finally start making the right decisions, you'll accelerate through pain, eventually arriving at a place where everything flows. Now the interesting part is that the Mingmen point is on your lower back. Given how practical the Chinese were, they quite literally believed that your life is mapped on your body. A stiff back is the first sign that you aren't "governing" your life in the right way. Liberating that point would, theoretically, begin the process of liberation from your current life. Specifically, you "open the gates of destiny". This reminds me of Sarno's psychosomatic theory on pain and turbid/trapped emotions. Anyway. I find it fascinating because this framework points to a very tangible connection between life -> body -> mind. What do you think?
