⚠️🚨 Attention All Facebook Page Owners and Publishers: Urgent account management update! We are seeing dozens of unconnected user accounts reporting issues. Tons of direct messages and emails coming in from accounts we've never worked with and some that we have. Here's what's happening and what you need to do as first steps: NOTE 1: Do not do any of the below steps too quickly or all at once, you need to do it gradually... NOTE 2: Thankfully in 99% of cases we are seeing the platform firewalls kicking in successfully, the issue is when it kicks in successfully some people lose access until they get back in, so take these precautions into account anyway to avoid being the unlucky 1% 1. At first we got word that Facebook is starting to put a cap on the amount of admins and managers connected to each Facebook Page. So the first step is to remove any admins from your Facebook Pages who are not absolutely essential. Important: Keep a backup admin of a secure account with 'full privileges' - this is essential. 2. Then we got DM's coming in of random people being locked out of their accounts due to failed login attempts. Make sure you have 2FA set up on your Business Suite and personal Facebook account, and make sure your password is super secure. Make sure any admin connected to your account is equally secure. 3. Check your notifications to see if there were any login attempts on your account that were successfully blocked by Facebook/Meta. When you click on the notification you may have the ability to select that it wasn't you, at which point Facebook can block the IP. Again, make sure your password is very secure. 4. Make sure your Ads Manager is secure and doublecheck your payout settings have not been changed. 5. Circle back to the page owners/managers/admins step in (1) above and work on a longer term solution for your admins. This will particularly apply to those organizations with more than 5 admins/managers. 6. Make sure ALL of your online accounts are secure. Emails, Wordpress accounts. Cloudflare. GoDaddy, Namecheap, Facebook, Meta, and anywhere else you use a username and password. If you've ever gotten one of those 'compromised password' notifications, now is the time to stop ignoring that. 7. We will keep you updated as things progress and we learn more. Keep checking this thread for updates as we work through all the variables and help troubleshoot all of the DM's coming in. We've never seen this level of notifications incoming at this rate before, it would always just trickle in here or there, never from every angle all at once across so many unrelated use cases. Thankfully, so far the platform firewalls are all blocking these issues successfully but it's creating some huge headaches for some people. So, WTF is going on??? This might be one of those times where what's going on politically is impacting online ecosystems. After Iranian nuclear facilities were bombed by the USA over the weekend, Iran has vowed retaliation starting with a massive increase in cyber attacks and cyber warfare. Facebook, being the largest platform out there, is likely one of the first to be attacked, but expect this to cascade to more platforms. You will likely get notifications from various platforms asking you to beef up your security if you haven't already, whether if it's for precautionary measures or otherwise. Hopefully it will all blow over and be a nothing-burger with all of the platform firewalls kicking in. But it doesn't hurt to take extra precautions.
