it's wooooooorking there's still a ton of jank, but it's working! I've spent the last couple weeks learning how to make per-user databases with @CloudflareDev durable objects, with schemas/migrations managed by @DrizzleORM, all for an ai chat app built with @aisdk.

alright it's finally here better chat through durable objects per-user isolated DOs storing chat thread and message data, for a seriously performant AI chat experience With coding agents taking over, I found myself using the big web apps less and less b/c they don't have access to the kinds of tools I've gotten accustomed to, so I built a web experience w/ first-class support for @Context7AI, @CloudflareDev docs MCP, @ExaAILabs web search, and more. and also, who doesn't love durable objects?

New blog post is live! As promised, all about the two-brained architecture behind better-chat! Featuring my updated personal site, now on the @RedwoodJS v1.0.0-beta, using updated markdown/code-block rendering from what I learned working on the chat app, and a new table-of-contents sidebar. Pretty clean if I say so myself.

unlocked some (for now) hidden @alchemy_run lore yesterday one of the best parts of alchemy is how easy they make it to handle env vars and secrets when using Cloudflare (and other clouds), surfacing errors sooner to preventing type errors and getting lost in a stacktrace while trying to deploy but I learned something that made it all the better, and the gist is: in your config file, use alchemy.env for your regular environment variables and use alchemy.secret.env for your secrets!

new favorite thing you can do with @alchemy_run. create a custom domain in @CloudflareDev in your frontend app, then define a route pattern for your api routes in your backend app. clean and simple.

Honestly didn't expect @zerodotemail to already be such a solid mobile experience. Well done, y'all. 🤘

today in better-chat: - Looks like @CloudflareDev (just yesterday!) updated their own MCP servers to support HTTP transport in addition to SSE (which like with everyone else will deprecated soon), so I've updated the built-in Cloudflare Docs server in better-chat to use the HTTP one. Thanks, @mattzcarey!

I've been heads down on my project for the @convex @tan_stack start hackathon that ends next Monday In a way, I feel like I've done so much, and in others, I feel like I'm spiraling and running out of time and have so much left to do But just like writing a book, planning a video shoot, coming up with presentation slides, or cooking a meal, "most" of the work happens before you ever actually start doing the thing. I've been very focused on my digital mise en place: - understanding my tech stack (this is my first time REALLY diving into Convex and Tanstack Start), - scaffolding my project by hand (with the help of better-t-stack, create-tsrouter-app, create alchemy, etc) over and over again until I feel like I know in my bones what each file does and why it looks exactly the way it does, - doing research and planning and making hard decisions on user stories, styling guidelines, reasonably scoped features for the time I have left - and something very important to me, making something that FEELS good to look at and use Now with all of this preparation under my belt, I've spent the day actually implementing features, and it feels like I'm flying. Very excited to submit soon.

Spent my morning FINALLY updating better-cloud.dev, my first and still most popular project, that I learned a ton on when I first built it out. Updated all dependencies and converted the whole thing to make the most of @alchemy_run, as all things should. Check it out 🤙
