I keep hearing there is a lot of demand for marketing in crypto. It’s true - I haven’t seen this much inbound in a while. Hype is a great catalyst for new talent.. There are a lot of people who want to get into crypto and don’t have the marketing experience - many come from web2. Here’s where your transferable skills are the most relevant - Paid social / paid media - crypto is maturing, acquiring and retaining customers matter. They are customers - not users. Brand strategy and creative development - this is more relevant than ever. In a sea of jargon - creativity is a moat. User experience - product teams need a customer voice. Simplicity takes time to build. Partnerships - it’s the same as web2. Align with a relevant brand, borrow relevance and add to their community and 👌. Customer retention - all that CRM stuff is becoming essential as loyalty is harder in crypto. Long term thinking usually balances short term tactics. What’s different about crypto? It’s harder to think long term - zoning out is a luxury sometimes. Your competitors are your partners or collaborators at times. I’d say Web2 has some of this but more so in Web3. Speed - it’s a lot faster to launch and pivot. Perfection isn’t always rewarded. Growth is often embedded - many communities, infrastructure, layered incentives and integrations. Loyalty driven media is acquisition. Integrations are distribution - although I see this in AI which tells me Web2 is next. Perplexity inside WhatsApp is a great example. BNKR on X is distribution through integration. Crypto media is pretty nascent. The tracking rails and media platforms are consolidating now. A token isn’t the product - they co-exist - they require separate strategies. Growth hacking is still important - timeline mindshare via community hacking and many new KOL formats that you don’t see in web2. So flex the Web2 skills you have - chances are - you have more knowledge than many crypto OGs who earned their marketing cred via community growth and airdrops / NFT membership distribution + token pumping collaborations.
