Building muscle is like cultivating a garden. You have to consistently feed it, give it the right conditions, and protect it if you want it to thrive. You are never fully there. It’s an endless ongoing process. The moment you stop is the moment you atrophy

10 days out from my first ever competition. Feeling super flat and depleted

Progress starts with small plates! You don't need much, just add a little every session. Small wins over the longterm

Nothing good comes from underestimating your competition. Underdog mentality. You are forever the smallest fish in the right pond. Always room to grow with this perspective

You can slam nothing but chicken and rice and get huge, in fact, many bodybuilders do, as food isn’t cheap and the expenses add up. It’s an effective strategy for putting muscle on. The main problem with not having variety though, is that you will lack micronutrients, potentially have digestive issues on a long enough timeline, poorer bloodwork, and a problem with adherence due to monotony/not palatable enough of foods. If your budget and time allows: - use different healthy carb sources - use different healthy protein sources - add fruits, one with digestive enzymes - add vegetables - add a probiotic A healthier you that is less inflamed will grow greater and last longer in the sport anyhow

Bodybuilding is not complicated. Yes, some things are more “optimal” than others but you can very well get jacked eating candy for carbs and milk for protein while lifting progressively heavier to build a lot of muscle. No special movement, no special timing, no special intraworkout or blend; don’t fall for the charlatans selling you secrets. Push up your weights and food over time. The end.

Bodybuilding teaches you how to be successful. 1. Set a goal 2. Plan things out 3. Effort is rewarded 4. Repeat necessary tasks 5. Progress is slow Ingrain these concepts, learned from bodybuilding, and on a long enough timeline anything is possible

Bodybuilding is literally fun. You mean I can get stronger, build muscle, eat a ton of protein, boost my confidence, look better, and find purpose just by putting in effort? I can’t imagine living my life any other way

Weight training is healthy. Eating whole foods with proteins and micronutrients is healthy. Lowering your bodyfat and optimizing your hormones is healthy. Taking these things to extremes is not healthy. Bodybuilding, especially at a competitive level, is not healthy. Overscrutinizing your appearance is not healthy. There are much worse of vices. This one is shamelessly mine

If there is any way you can stabilize a movement, either through a machine, or using a bench, or a pad, you should absolutely do so, and that applies for every single exercise. Standardizing your movements will prevent injury, help prevent you using momentum, or recruiting secondary muscles to bear the load of weight. If your goal is hypertrophy, especially of a certain muscle, it will always be to your benefit to setup an “exercise environment” conducive to hitting the exact same muscle in the exact same pattern week-after-week. The more accurate you can execute that, the same every week, the greater the chances you’ll actually grow

I realize bodybuilding is about building the most aesthetic “look” and the weight on the scale is only a metric. It doesn’t say much in terms of your overall body composition. But man do I have an unhealthy fixation with a number. It goes too low, and I feel smol. Even if I look incredible in the mirror.

You have the time to meal prep. It’s simply not a priority for you. Easier to order takeout/eat chips. Add rice to rice cooker. Chicken breast to air fryer. Potatoes and beef to slow cooker. That all cooks itself and stops on a set timer. Chop vegetables and fruit. Add seasonings. Put in Tupperware. Your active labor in the kitchen is under 10mins.

You will be judged for what you do and for what you don’t. Opinions are fleeting. People are fleeting. The only judgement you cannot escape is the one from the man in the mirror. When you look, are you proud? Of how you look, how you treat others, how you spend your time? Or do you live a life of what-ifs and should-haves? I am not perfect and I will never reach sainthood, but there is solace in knowing I lived and gave my all

Success leaves clues. If you pay attention, most of the top bodybuilders are all eating the same 10-15 foods and doing the same 25-30 exercises. Arguments are over minutiae. If you do even remotely near the greats you’ll still land somewhere “accurate enough” to make significant progress
