I want to share my experience about walking. If the post is too long, the summary for you is Start walking daily for 30 minutes! I had interaction with Tyler's post about whether walking can really help with joint pain. So I decided to try it and I've been walking every day for at least 30 minutes with target of >6000 steps a day in the past 3 weeks. Let me share what happen. I am playing somewhat competitive badminton in local gym once a week and always wear knees braces to reduce the impact on my knees in the past 4 years. Knees joint have always been my big problem in this sport. Happy to report that my knees are significantly less painful after 2 hours badminton games now and I can play without wearing braces again. I usually walk around the park while listening to podcast or audiobook so I can also learn while walking. I'm surprised something so simple could have significant changes. Hopefully, as I walk more and reduce more weight, I can increase the frequency of my badminton to 2-3 times a week. Thanks Tyler! I wish I started it 10 years ago.

It started with just hitting a specific number in mind but more and more I realize there is more than that. The journey is as important as reaching that goal because I don't want to regret of not enjoying it along the way. I'm a proud parent of my 2 kids and trying to do my best to prepare them for this world. From time to time, I might share insight about stocks or trades that I make because I enjoy investing and also do trading on the side.

Interesting thing happened yesterday. We drove my wife's car for family lunch. She mentioned the engine light is on and car needs oil change. We casually decided to eat in a new katsu place. When we about to leave, I cannot start the car. Looked like battery is dead. What's funny is, the restaurant is literally across the place we do oil change. 😂 So, I went across the street, asked the guy to help me jump the car battery, and then take care of oil change and battery replacement over there. People may see this as a misfortune, but I chose to see it as a favor from universe. The car could have stopped in other place where I have to call tow company, or get uber home and then drive my other car, etc. 🙄 I think when our life is aligned, things happen and it is up to you, how you put meaning into it.

When you reach your FI number & become work optional, what personas do choose to live your life? Choose 3 that you'd prioritize the most. 1. Entrepreneur - Quit job to pursue entrepreneurship. 2. Explorer - Travel more and explore new things. 3. Lifelong Learner - Always learning new skills and knowledge. 4. Side Hustler - No main job, but multiple side income. 5. Hobbyist - Go all in on hobbies that you didn't get chance to do before. 6. Health Junkies - More attention to health & fitness. 7. Philanthropist - Charity, teaching, sharing knowledge with others. 8. Community advocate - Build or join community. 9. Family Guy/Gal - Spend quality time with family. 10. The Worker - Keep working cause you love the job. My Top 3 picks are: 3, 7 & 9. After my kids grow older, I will replace 9 with 2 or 6. Feel free to add more personas in the comments 🙂

Good morning all! Great start to 2025. Woke up before 6 AM. Meditation, pray and morning exercise are done. Enjoying my coffee and tuning in on X right now. Let's see if I can do this for another 364 days this year.

I'm looking for advice and perspective to get rid or make peace with my limiting/competing belief. Currently, I avoid being promoted to my next level at work. Mentally, I blocked it and I told my manager about it that I'm not interested. I believe higher level means I will sacrifice my family as priority. My wife's also pursuing her advancement in her career towards similar level. With two young kids (3 & 9), I feel I'd rather spend my time more with them rather than solving more complicated problems at work. Are you or do you know any family with both husband & wife thriving on their careers at the highest level but also having a well balanced family life? I'm very interested to listen to other people perspective on this. 🙂

Good morning all, I've been falling out with my health goal these past several days. 🙁 Especially for the >30 minutes walk outside per day due to snow days in the past several days. The effect on my joint is significant where I feel stiffer and slower to recover after my exercise. Hopefully weather gets back to normal soon. 🌤️

More type of investors (mostly on X). Trying my best to poke fun of all types. if you're offended, that means you are not sure on your investment choice. 😆

A good friend of mine planning to retire this June at 55 years old. Some friends in our group told him to not do it. He will be bored or that he should at least work some more years. But not me. I'm excited to hear it and wish him all the best. I'm really curious about what his plan after and how he is gonna spend his free time. I think after working for more than 25 years in tech, he probably feel enough and realize that financial incentive is not the only thing that matter. For me, I'm starting to appreciate time and health more than money. I think we all need to start optimizing not only which credit card we use to gain more points, but how we spend time for what matter while we still have our health. 🙂

If you want to succeed in the long run, you've gotta be willing to fail in the short term. Learn new things. Try new approach. Take those risks. Reach those dreams.

Happy Friday all, I got my wife a cheesecake 🧀 for valentine day cause she doesn't want any chocolate or flower. What I learn about stock market this past few months is you can grow wealth any way you want with stock market. Invest big in $HIMS or $PLTR for example. I've seen account grow 3X in few months. People buy based good fundamentals like $UBER, $GOOGL, $AMZN, etc. Others insist they only invest in $VOO and live life to the fullest without checking their portfolio every day. None of the above are completely right or wrong. Just make sure to stay invested in the market so your money can grow whether you pay attention or not. Have a good long weekend.

If you've successfully automated or streamlined processes at your job that save a lot of your time, should you be given new tasks? Or do you deserve to enjoy that free time? What do you prefer?

I am putting it out there to be accountable. I weigh 199 lbs on 1/1/2025. My target is to maintain 180 lbs this year. It's not gonna be easy but I'm going to try it for the third time. If I cannot do it by EOY, either I try again or just delete this post.😂 Wish me luck!

Proud dad moment last night. My daughter won in 1st place in her school's spelling bee competition among 4th grader. 🥇 She even beat some 5th graders as well but got overall 4th place in the competition out of 31 kids who competed. I want her to experience it for herself the sweet taste of victory and understand that losing is not a big deal when we compete. She was so worried that she would fail on the first round and embarrass herself, but she ended up lasting until the 7th round, where only 4 participants left. She has worked so hard this past month, even during holidays, so I am really happy that it paid off for her. We told her we would reward her with $25 if she placed 3rd, $50 for 2nd place and $100 plus Disneyland trip if she came in 1st among 4th grader. 🎠 Looks like I need to start booking that Disneyland trip either for spring or summer. 😁 As parent, this is one of those things that makes it all worth it. Seeing your kids grow up and start standing on their own is better than anything you've ever had.

Going to office today. I wonder how many people still work remotely or at least doing hybrid work. Do you enjoy going to office? Working remote is convenient but I also enjoy meeting my co-workers once a week, have lunch together and having in person meetings.

It's December. Time to look back and reflect on the 2024 resolutions. Health: ❌ Failed the weight goal, sleep goal, diet and fasting goals. I think stress got the best out of me 😅 Trading: 🤷 Still profitable but not as much as expected. It satisfies my itch. Financial: ✅ On track with our FI journey. 2024's growth has been amazing. Kid learn to start investing. Family & Home: ✅ Less emotional. Get kids to more physical activities to boost their confidence. More vacations. Clean Junk from garage. Hobby: ❌ Planned to develop a video game but didn't even spend time at all to touch it this year. 😆 Do you create new year resolutions every year? I review this 2-3 times a year to make sure if I am on track or if I have to pivot. It helps me personally. 🙂

Had dinner at Mama Katsu tonight just across from Disneyland. The food is good. I didn't know sales tax is only 7.75% here. Lower than WA which is 10% ish.

Is there really any work or jobs that produce good income and completely stress free? I work 9 to 5 & relatively good at what I'm doing. Report to good manager, work with great team and getting great package & benefits. But still, stress would be there where we have deadline or figuring out how to deliver a requirement. Curious to hear from other 9 to 5 folks or business owner. Maybe if someone working as Yoga teacher or profession related to art?
