Avi’s blockchain jargon is so complex, even their tweets need a decoder ring—good luck explaining zkSharding to your grandma anytime soon!

Successfully launching the first Testnet for =nil; Foundation as CEO, marking a milestone in pioneering scalable Ethereum Layer 2 solutions and earning respect from the blockchain research community.

To revolutionize blockchain scalability by developing innovative, scalable, and composable Layer 2 solutions that address the fragmented ecosystem, empowering developers and communities to build on a more unified, efficient infrastructure.

Avi values technical rigor, open collaboration, and forward-thinking design principles. Believing in the power of research-driven innovation, Avi upholds transparency, community-driven progress, and the relentless pursuit of solving hard problems in technology.

Exceptional leadership in tech innovation, deep knowledge of zero-knowledge proofs and blockchain scalability, and a compelling vision that inspires both technical teams and the wider community.

Can sometimes focus deeply on technical and strategic complexity, potentially underestimating the need for simpler communication or broader audience engagement outside the crypto-tech niche.

To grow their audience on X, Avi could mix more educational and simplified content with their advanced technical insights, using threads that break down complex blockchain concepts for wider audiences. Engaging directly with developers through AMAs or challenges could foster a stronger community vibe.

Fun fact: Avi stepped into the CEO role at =nil; Foundation just days before launching their first Testnet, highlighting a fearless, lead-from-the-front mentality.

On Monday, I stepped in as CEO of @nil_foundation. Today, we launch our first Testnet. ---------------- It’s a great honor to lead such a talented and experienced team. =nil; Foundation has been around for a long time (since 2018). It began as a group of engineers, cryptographers and researchers who just wanted to solve hard technical problems. That spirit carried us to pioneer ZK tech - developing earlier ZK developer tooling, writing circuits and staying close to the edge of blockchain R&D. Today, our spirit of solving hard problems is stronger than ever as we tackle a new challenge: blockchain scalability. In January 2023, we foresaw our current reality: a fragmented and dysfunctional L2 ecosystem. This led us to design zkSharding and build =nil; - a general purpose Ethereum L2. It offers the scalability of the rollup-centric roadmap while maintaining the composability you want. It’s the foundation for what we believe is the endgame of blockchain design and I’m thrilled to share that our Testnet is live (see post below). Please go break it. ---------------- Again, for all of you who reached out personally or replied on X, thank you. It’s incredibly humbling to share this journey with so many talented individuals. Time to get after it.

1/ Friends, today is my first day as Chief Product Officer at Nil Foundation (@nil_foundation). I am beyond excited to bring our products to market, contribute to ZK research and grow our community of developers!

I spent 3yrs working for @Delphi_Digital before joining @nil_foundation and I couldn’t disagree more. Being a crypto investor is one of (if not the most) privileged positions you can hold. - The industry is still so small that as VC you have access to virtually every company/founder - If you do positive sum work, you can access the most exclusive social circles in ~1yr - You have the luxury of self-directed research - When you feel the need to move to the operator side you’ll know exactly what to look for - The work-life balance is 10x less stressful than operating That being said, if you want to be an operator, go be an operator. But don’t fall into the VC hate. It is an incredible position for curious and talented young people breaking into the industry.

Today we launched our Devnet at @nil_foundation, the first release of =nil; We shipped a real, usable and functioning devnet! I’m so proud of our team for pulling off what we accomplished today. Yes, it’s just a devnet. Yes, it’s a small community. Yes, there’s lots of work ahead of us. But today marks the metaphorical planting of our flag as a legitimate L2 solution. We’re a serious team with unique talents and a steadfast committment to a mission: to build a trustless, reliable, and publicly-owned World Computer. =nil; holds the potential to see this mission through. There’s no denying that zkSharding is a complex system but with the dedication of our team and emerging =dev; community, zkSharding isn’t an *if* it’s a *when*. Thanks to everyone who attended our onboarding event in Brussels. It was great to see you all irl 🫶🏼 As for the rest of our =devnet; community I’m excited for you all to tinker in the coming weeks. Sharding is dead. Long live sharding.

EthCC reflections for @nil_foundation: 1. Side events are hard and will only get harder. We (co)hosted 3 side events and I personally attended ~8. Attention is very fragmented. Expect coalitions to emerge at future events. 2. Sharding is alive and well. Other than our devnet launch of =nil; it was great to see @zksync openly validate sharding with elastic chain and @VitalikButerin double down on “L2s are shards” (we still hold a strong position that this is only part of the truth). 3. Industry veterans are still fighting the good fight. Each cycle the % of mission-aligned new entrants drops. Fortunately our senior generations remain enthusiastic. 4. There’s a growing divide between teams that ship and those that don’t. I found this to be directly correlated with the type of events projects host. Distribution is worthless if you can’t build something useful. Infer as you wish. 5. Kudos to @aztecnetwork for cultivating an impressive community of builders & hackers. I had a lot of fun talking at their startup school. 6. Last but not least, I’m super proud of our team @nil_foundation. We shipped a real, usable devnet with tooling. We also got to spend quality time with our growing community of =developers;. Excited to carry our momentum through the summer and into the fall as we build the foundations for ecosystem growth. And great to see so many of you in-person! Reminder that you can typically find me in NYC and I’m always happy to grab a coffee.

Met so many great people at @corl_conf in Seoul. 10 takeaways from a first-time attendee: 1. Pleasantly surprised at how friendly the community is. No ego, no exclusivity. Rare for research events in my exp. 2. Google DeepMind is everywhere. 3. Demos IRL hit different. They have aura like an oil master vs a print. 4. Commercialization virtually absent, as was expected. @DynaRobotics the major exception. 5. Data collection = glaring bottleneck. Lots of hungry researchers and builders like @MicroAGI_Labs 6. Creativity thrives in scarcity, excited for more progress like @JosephLim_AI's workshop on policy/data augmentation. 7. Crypto x Robotics hype is coming. Incentives for data collection. @BitRobotNetwork clear leader. 8. VCs here think independently, bullish. 9. Global crowd, refreshing to see. 10. Excited for next year. Bonus: 11. @chris_j_paxton is tall.

Sharing a full response to @VitalikButerin's execution sharding vs rollups blog. TLDR: Execution sharding and rollups are the same from the perspective of Ethereum, but differ considerably from the perspective of end users. A user-centric view favors sharding; more scalability, more possible abstractions, more transparency. And rollups face major challenges ahead… Despite this, we still strongly believe Ethereum should remain layer-2 centric for all of the reasons Vitalik outlined in his latest two blogs... but that does not invalidate sharding as a scaling solution. We’re very excited to bring the original execution sharding vision (Eth 2.0) to life at @nil_foundation with zkSharding. bit.ly/shardingvrollu…
