It makes me proud to see that something is changing. @Shopify is hiring 1,000 engineering interns, @HackTheNorth is bringing 1,000 builders together, @socraticainfo is inspiring creative work, and so many more. i just watched @boardyai help a founder get a term sheet in 48 hours. friday: boardy makes the intro. saturday: first call at 7am, partner meeting at 11 am. sunday: investment decision made. boardy just beat his own record (he got $8M in 3 days last year). this time, it took only 48 hours to help someone secure an investment. this is the 3rd founder in less than a week to close through boardy. i keep thinking about how insane this is. most founders I know are on month 3 of fundraising right now, still scheduling first calls. meanwhile, this founder is about to close their round in a week. my conviction in what we're building has never been higher.

The riskiest decision I ever made wasn't risky at all. When I chose @boardyai over my insurance internship, I asked myself 4 questions: 1. What's the worst that can happen? (and can I handle it?) Learning more in 4 months than I would in years. That's not a downside. 2. What's the best case scenario? (is it worth the downside?) I'd be part of building a company that disrupts traditional networking and learning from the smartest people in tech. The upside was massive compared to adding another line on my resume. 3. Is this reversible? (most decisions are) I could always go back to the traditional path. Big companies aren't going anywhere, but the window of opportunity to work at one of the fastest-growing startups in Toronto was closing fast. 4. What will I regret more - trying or not trying? This one sealed it. I knew I'd kick myself forever if I played it safe. The regret of not trying would eat at me way more than any temporary failure. Most "risky" decisions aren't that risky when you actually break them down. If you're struggling with a similar decision, I'm always happy to chat.

I turned 21 last week. Here are 21 things I wish someone had told me sooner. 1. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there. The people who shit on you will never say it to your face. What I do hear almost every day is, “you inspired me.” 2. Send that message. People are more approachable than you think. 3. Be the dumbest person in the room. 4. If you want to stand out, you need to build your personal brand. 5. Kaizen - get a little better every day. It can be for work, school, friendships, hobbies, whatever, but do it with intention. It adds up fast. 6. With enough creativity and effort, things that seemed impossible start to look doable. 7. People respect speed. Reply quickly, help quickly, follow up quickly. 8. Most people want to help. Ask in a way that makes it easy for them to say yes. 9. It doesn’t matter if you get 99 no's. You only need one yes. 10. People remember your story way more than your resume. 11. Most of the people you look up to don’t have a plan either. We’re all just figuring it out on the go. 12. Nobody’s keeping score on you. Everyone’s too busy worrying about themselves. 13. Better questions = better conversations. 14. The best DMs I’ve sent were just, “I appreciate your work.” Nothing else. 15. A $5 coffee with the right person has been worth more than any course I’ve paid for. 16. Posting regularly is the cheapest and easiest way to build credibility. 17. Saying no is a skill. 18. People like to help people who help others. 19. If you want to post, but you’re scared, that’s a sign you should. You'll grow so much from overcoming your fears. 20. A small group of people cheering for you is all you need for momentum. 21. Don’t wait for permission. Just do it. Year 20 has taught me more than any other year of my life. A lot of that came from putting myself out there and creating my own opportunities (shoutout @Boardy_ai). Excited for what 21 brings :)

nobody talks about the sacrifices you make when you work at a startup. it's not just the long hours. it's everything else: -having to cancel plans with friends because something came up -your gym membership becoming a monthly donation -forgetting what hobbies you used to have our team at @boardyai just launched our founder/investor campaign, and we're in full grind mode. we're working around the clock right now, but somehow i have more energy than ever. there's a huge difference between -working late because you think you have -working late because you can't imagine doing anything else. obviously, you should take care of your body and health. but when you're building something worthwhile, you're willing to make some trade-offs to work on something you believe in.

Things are moving so fast right now that it's impossible to predict what the next day will look like. Now, I draft our content the night before/day of. 2. Create magical moments for people to rally around. We're helping 100 (now 500) founders raise by end of the year. Nobody's ever done this before, so naturally it brings attention. More importantly, it gives people something to root for - they want to follow the journey. 3. Trust your 21 year old growth intern to go viral. I can't emphasize enough how big of an advantage it is to be young. We've been consuming meme content since we were 12. We have the raw ability to look at a post and instantly know if it'll go viral or not. The 30 second skit that we spontaneously filmed in one take got us 150k impressions. TL;DR: Hire more 21 year old growth interns.
