It would have been a lonelier past 18 days since my husband left and my son went on vacation with my parents, but I got my cat back from my parents finally. They had him since I went to treatment Dec 31, ‘21. He’s good for my #mentalhealth 🥰 and I really have missed him ❤️

Many people come into addiction because of trauma. But not me. I grew up believing that the world was mostly good and pretty safe. And when reality began to betray that belief, I found my escape in a wine glass, a long stemmed martini, a shot glass. A drink would make the dark world feel fun again. So, more drinks obviously meant more fun. I wasn’t equipped or prepared to handle the difficult truths about life, Because I thought that I was entitled to a life that was easy-breezy and fun. It wasn’t trauma, it was poor preparation for life. And my guiding compass didn’t point due North. Because I worshipped earthly things, Rather than Almighty God. Today my life really IS quite easy-breezy and fun, Because I have learned what to expect of the world, And how to focus on my reaction to it. I have faith and trust in God to deliver what I need, Instead of a constant focus on what I want. And I refuse to accept that my circumstances provide me any excuses. It’s been 1322 days since my last drink. In the time since, I have changed in unimaginable ways. Sobriety isn’t just not drinking. It can be truly transformational. 6 months in, I quit smoking and biting my nails… A year in, I had changed my whole perspective on health. 2 years in, I had dropped 30 pounds. 3 years in, my energy and physical well being are better than when I was 30 - nearly 15 years ago. My mind cleared from the fog of the years of drinking. My relationship with the truth became so different. I went from running from the truth, to seeking it. Being honest is non-negotiable. I’m one of the fortunate ones. I never crave a drink. I’m consumed by a life that is beyond my wildest dreams. And not because I have everything that I could ever desire, But because I am so grateful for everything that I have. #RecoveryPosse

I didn’t honor my friend on the day of her passing this week. I will do that now, a few days late. She passed away suddenly on September 4th, 2022. She didn’t win her battle with addiction. She was still struggling. She was 32. She was a Sergeant in the Army. She was a sister. She was a funny and kind person. She was amazing and every year at the beginning of September, I feel her loss a bit more. It’s a gentle reminder to me that I live to honor those who didn’t make it. But, it’s also made me pretty resilient and tested whether I fake my confidence like I used to, or whether I’ve actually earned real confidence. Got told I’m a rough 44 today. I was like, “yeah right 🙄😂” People… I beat addiction. By many measures, I shouldn’t be alive. So, I’m not shaken by your lame comments. #RecoveryPosse

She’s being a hero to someone watching her TikTok who may have otherwise chosen to pick up again after 7 days of staying clean. She is allowing us to see that while it isn’t easy, it is worth it to feel your feelings and let them pass. She is being real, messy, and honest, which is exactly what life is. It’s not perfect, and even when we achieve this amazing thing called sobriety, it isn’t perfect. But, when we learn to deal with it the way she did, then we can hold our head high instead of hanging it in shame. This might be one of my favorite recovery videos I’ve seen in a very long time. What a night! Had my son’s 6th Grade concert at my old High School, where we snapped a pic in front of my graduating class’s mural that I helped paint almost 27 years ago 😳 Hands down, best part was watching a group of sixth graders and their friends in the audience try to hold it together for “Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)” for the 6-7 part 😆🤣 I recorded everything for my dad who has to be at home during this chemotherapy period and couldn’t come tonight. My brother and his daughters would usually be there too, but they’re living in Paris this year, and I’ve been single since I decided that putting up with a husband who drinks wasn’t for me. So, here I am doing life on life’s terms. And, I’ve found the past several months of it being just me and my son to be quite refreshing and peaceful ☺️🕊️ I continue to surprise myself. #RecoveryPosse
