Peter’s tweet count is so high, even his own algorithms might be begging for a coffee break — maybe it’s time to pause and let those 'temporary top-tier talent' tweets get some breathing room before the timelines start filing a noise complaint!

His biggest win is pioneering a flexible talent model that brought world-class developers onboard for targeted sprints, vastly upgrading his company’s tech stack and sprinting ahead in innovation — all while growing a vibrant community around Laravel and tech craftsmanship.

Peter’s life purpose is to drive technology forward by experimenting with new ideas and empowering teams to solve complex problems in innovative ways. He aims to cultivate a collaborative ecosystem that nurtures top-tier talent and inspires continuous learning and improvement.

Peter values craftsmanship, community, and the optimism that stems from thoughtful design and open collaboration. He believes in leveraging diverse expertise and unconventional approaches to achieve breakthroughs rather than relying solely on traditional methods.

His greatest strengths lie in strategic thinking, deep technical knowledge, and fostering innovative cultures that blend flexibility with high performance. He’s also an excellent connector, able to rally and integrate top talent around complex challenges.

Peter's biggest weakness might be tweeting almost 16,000 times—sometimes the sheer volume can overwhelm or dilute his messages, making it tricky for audiences to catch his most valuable insights.

To grow his audience on X, Peter should focus on curated, high-impact threads that distill his deep technical knowledge into clear, actionable insights, while leveraging storytelling about his unique hires and innovative projects. Engaging more with followers and sparking conversations with peers could amplify his influence.

Fun fact: Peter once experimented with hiring superstar developers temporarily instead of making traditional full-time hires — treating talent like a squad of ‘strays, rogues & bandits’ to level up projects quickly and efficiently.

Well @timacdonald87 turns out cache memoization works very well for "vertical scaling" apps like ours (not that many concurrent users but lots of maths & long-running jobs). Thanks @bentumbleson for spotting us enough Nightwatch credits to debug the issue.

This year we lost a dev early in the year and instead of going the traditional route and making a replacement hire, we experimented with opportunistically grabbing top-tier global talent to drop in temporarily and solve big problems. @jasonlbeggs levelled up our charts and data visualisation massively. @gonedark bulk refactored our database naming and internal code standards to follow Laravel conventions. @JustSteveKing moved us onto the 'client' pattern for external APIs. @marcfowler upgraded our docker usage and Livewire interactive diagrams. For 2025, I think we'll probably return to investing in growing our full time team. (Our core team of strays, rogues & bandits are absolute badasses.) But if you ever see a tweet from a top-tier operator who you think you'd never get the chance to work with, remember @aarondfrancis advice, "you can just do things" and that includes reaching out to your heroes when they are in-between gigs to level up your code base.

My first #LaraconAU and it was amazing to meet the founder, creator and architect of it all @taylorotwell I'd had a couple of careers before stumbling into software development, but finding @laravelphp felt like coming home. There is a fundamental craft, care for the details, and optimism that runs through the framework, the core team, and the wider community. My life and work is unrecognisable from five years ago, and I owe it all to Laravel, the "Laravel Way", and the Laravel community.

Powerhouse @stauffermatt going deep on what “idiomatic” means in the Laravel Community at #LararonAU So much gold for new apps and for long lived apps wanting to make sure we’re doing things the Laravel Way!

Friendly hacker @valorin terrifying a full house of Laravel developers with live demos of several easily vulnerabilities. Luckily also sharing some great patterns and practices for input escaping, secure cookies and cross site scripting. #LaraconAU

Yes @michaeldyrynda @jessarchercodes & @taylorotwell it was a ‘trip’. Hope to see you all again next year!

Thanks @mitchdav & @LaraconAU for helping show us all what's possible with a native mobile app built on top of @laravelphp. Sadly @patel_ian missed Laracon AU in-person last year, but he cooked hard, and now we're mobile: youtube.com/watch?v=L4KDc_…

I love @posthog and @getsentry But so far adding profiling (speed monitoring) via Sentry managed to slow down our site. And adding more user tracking through PostHog added JS errors. I'm sure we'll work through them as both teams are awesome and seem to work well with @laravelphp. It's always worth keeping in mind the Hiesenburg Uncertainty principle / observability tradeoff: peterjthomson.com/2018/03/uncert…

Yo @valorin & @gonedark If we want to be 'secure by default' (eg sanitize html input no matter which endpoint is called) then what's the cleanest Model level pattern?

Yo @marcelpociot It seems like git work-trees are going to be a pretty key part of AI dev tooling. Is there a way we could make Herd more aware of source / branches and some-how one-click clone local environments (with randomised local URLs). Kind of like expose for work trees.

So @FactoryAI looks truly next gen. Just missing mobile native apps (more important than people realise for modern dev tools) and AI code review / source control visibility tooling (think AI-first Sourcetree / Gitkraken).

Inside every Laravel developer there are 3 wolves: The @sublimehq wolf is blazing fast, but silent. The @phpstorm wolf is slow, but helpful, supportive and honest. The @cursor_ai wolf is magical but prone to wishful thinking.

Yo @t3dotgg In a front-end language you want hot-reload on every keypress (or at least on-save) because everything you do starts and ends in the browser (at least as a mental model). In php it's often a bit more of a save and refresh model. If you're doing a bit of server side stuff (also useful for Rails, Danjo, etc), then a Save-Reload IDE plugin is gold: marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName…

Hearing @calebporzio grind on tickets and bug fixes for Flux UI is magical because all the lessons on weird css and browser quirks are now addressed / available as context for the wider Laravel and Livewire endeavour. I still miss CRUD @adamwathan and query builder @calebporzio but they’re in a better place now.
