The first mail in inbox as I start my day is from a candidate declining an in-office job offer. They chose a fully remote position instead. It got me thinking because this is the 4th offer we lose in 2 weeks. What can be done to make in-office roles more appealing?

I am not a techie. Just a Recruiter. But I see both kinds of Hiring Managers. Those who just want to know if you got the logic and 'somehow' get things done And those who do care about the basics, syntax and fundamentals. Who needs what and why is very context and perhaps project specific. Neither is wrong. But the fact is you got to know why 2x2 is 4 and how you will figure out 21x34. Despite having a calculator. Fundamentally fundamentals matter.

I've hired hundreds of people in my career. I am generally able to figure out if the candidate stands a chance in less than a minute of looking at a resume. Here are few points to note about your resume, based on my experience, that can never ever get old. 👇 1. Don’t use big, fancy words like ‘proactive leader’, ‘strategic thinking’, results oriented, self-starter. It sounds fake. Just be you and keep it simple! 2. Your CV does not have to fit on one page. Two pages are okay, if it’s easy to read. Don’t squish everything in tiny fonts, without borders. It’s hard to look at! Let it have space. 3. Don’t use hard words no one gets. Example: Don’t say “I made AI stuff better for work.” Say it easy, like “I made our computer work faster so we saved time.” 4. Don’t just say ‘I’m good.’ Show it with facts! Instead of ‘I made things better,’ say “I helped my team finish work 3 days early.” 4. Numbers and real stuff make people notice you. Do not use meaningless percentages. 5. Skip the part at the top saying what you want, like ‘I want a fun job.’ They already know that! Use that space to share a cool things you did that fits the job. 6. Don’t say boring stuff like "I work well with others." Everyone says that! Instead, say what you did, like "I worked with 4 people to finish a big project on time." Show what you really did! 7. Don’t make people click links to see your work. It’s too much! Put your best stuff right on the CV so they can see it fast. 8. Make it look the same all over. If you write “Office Manager” big in one place, don’t write “team leader” small in another. It not only feels stupid to read, reflects you are not thinking straight. 9. Please check spelling errors. Recruiters check. It matters. You get judged. 10. You don't really need to optimize your CV for ATS. You just have to use your common sense and optimize for that. 10.Ask a friend to read your CV. If they don’t get what you do, recruiter won’t either. Make the words in your resume super clear! If you have read till here, your CV will be awesome.

My experience in trying to hire freshers. 1) Received close to 270 resumes in an hour. 2) 90% of applicants got the resume right. 3) 90% of applicants couldn't answer opening questions which didn't need rehearsed answers. Example: Why are you trying off campus jobs? What was your experience with on campus interviews. 4) 80% of candidates didn't have worthwhile projects for me to call them. 5) The 20% I called didn't make the cut because: - Their first question was what's the package. - Couldn't speak well. - Weren't aable to convince me on how they will make an effort to learn python on job. And I am back to looking at another bunch of freshers again today.

As I sit in the hospital I am wondering. Tech earns crores. But a whole bunch of others keep the system alive and the world running. But no one notices them. I notice people who are here on an early shift, have taken crowded trains, perhaps work two shifts to handle the load but still may worry about paying inflated rent. They fix operations, care for patients, drive sales, balance the books, run hiring drives, and still go unacknowledged. They’re wearing worn-out shoes while building someone else’s empire. Then, they overhear patients waiting in lobby casually discussing startups, funding, land purchases, and the “struggle” of choosing between investing or vacationing in Europe. No hate. Just disbelief. I am part of tech. I hire tech. I value tech. But.... Tech is glamorized. Everyone else is invisible. People who code are called “builders.” What a farce! Code in 'production' but there is no real produce. People who actually build the foundation of delivery, sales, compliance, client management, customer service? They’re “non-core.” No ESOPs. No bonuses. No headlines. Just expectations. And fatigue. To catch up to the inflation, while some at 50 LPA is worried they are middle class! This isn’t about bitterness. It’s about imbalance. You can’t run a company or hospital on just code. You need people who care, hustle, and hold the chaos. It’s time we valued them.
