Consequences vary, but for the former Opendoor CEO, who was barely visible for years, it cost her her job and millions $$. For the new CEO @CanadaKaz, it's one of his superpowers and will carry the company into and through its next phase. - CEOs must be visible and go-direct. It's no longer optional or just for the 20-something fearless founders. Hiding behind layers of people and processes is now more of a liability than it ever has been. - Social media has allowed power centers to shift and it is now more broadly distributed to anyone with an X account. Do not ignore 'randos on the internet,' their voices matter, and can get loud - quickly. Listen, because they can create your next crisis or opportunity. - Communities are Critical. They've always been important, but now they're spinning up faster and in more places (X, Discord, Reddit) and mobilizing faster than ever. This is both a comms opportunity and threat . Figure. It. Out. ASAP. - There is real danger and liability in continuing to run old, crusty PR playbooks. Every comms person must be obsessive in their pursuit of effective communication. Evolve or die.
