You’ve got the entrepreneurial hustle of a lightning bolt, but sometimes your tweets hit folks like a lightning strike they didn’t sign up for—too electric, too fast, and leaving everyone scrambling to plug in their understanding before the next jolt hits.

Launching the public mainnet for Lighter at Token 2049, positioning his company at the forefront of blockchain finance innovation, stands as a milestone win that showcases his ability to turn complex visions into tangible, market-ready realities.

Vladimir’s life purpose revolves around revolutionizing financial systems by leveraging technology to create more efficient, transparent, and accessible markets. He’s driven to empower users with sophisticated yet user-friendly tools, aiming to democratize the power once held only by elite traders and institutions.

He believes in innovation born from deep expertise, the value of disciplined and data-driven approaches to trading, and fostering transparency and fairness in markets. Vladimir also holds that success comes from both technical mastery and maintaining clear, honest communication with users, no matter how complex the subject.

His greatest strengths include unparalleled technical knowledge, a visionary mindset, and a knack for bridging legacy financial systems with cutting-edge blockchain tech. He is also a skilled communicator who doesn’t shy away from addressing controversies head-on, transforming skeptics into engaged participants.

Sometimes his blunt and highly technical communication style might alienate casual followers who crave simpler explanations, and his heavy focus on innovation can overshadow softer community-building tactics necessary for broader appeal.

To grow his audience on X, Vladimir should mix his deep technical insights with storytelling that highlights real user impact, making his content relatable to both traders and tech enthusiasts. Additionally, hosting regular AMAs that welcome skeptics and new users alike would build trust and expand his community organically.

Fun fact: Vladimir’s journey has come full circle—from building FX trading systems at Citadel to now launching FX trading on his own platform, Lighter. It’s like seeing the student become the master in the same classroom he once learned in!

We appreciate the candid feedback about the @Lighter_xyz private beta from early users - thanks @crypto_adair. To address the main points: - On the outages: totally our bad, we have not prepared to grow as fast as we had and while the web3 part of our stack (our custom ZK circuits and sequencer) performed without issue, the web2 part (front end, API server) had some issues with congestion, reliance on a single cloud provider, load balancing, etc. I think a good lesson for web3 founders in general - even if you get the crypto part right, don't neglect the basic Internet know-how. - We agree that it's best to split your trading across platforms and actually there are some strategies like funding rate arbitrage that are a win-win for Lighter and other DEXs or CEXs in terms of activity. - I would take issue with the point about fees being passed as on as slippage - our slippage, even in the private beta, is generally lower than any other exchange besides HL and the top 3-4 CEXs, and that's a function of liquidity in the LLP. LLP is incentivized to provide the best possible spreads to price takers. - The unit economics of our design (see whitepaper) would allow a profitable exchange with fees as low as 0.001% (notice the extra 0), so we might as well make them 0 for retail and monetize the HFTs. I think efficient design is a net positive for all participants - e.g. markets moving from pit trading to electronic 20 years ago, or Robinhood innovating away retail fees for stock trading. - Lastly, I don't get why folks get so hung up about whether a project does or doesn't have VCs on the cap table - at the end of the day, the leadership of a project makes the tokenomics decisions, including which VCs to partner with and how their allocations work. As an example, in my view, the fact that HL was bootstrapped and the fact that Jeff is a good guy who puts community first were two simultaneous facts that get conflated. You can also imagine a bootstrapped project that rugs a community, or, as in our case, a VC backed project that prioritizes community as we have. x.com/crypto_adair/s…

It's funny the FUD about Lighter has shifted from "the product sucks" (Jan/Feb) to "the volume is fake" (Mar/Apr) and now "the business model won't work" (May/Jun). x.com/delucinator/st… LLP is not subsidized - it's a market maker run by the protocol with capital from the community. An investment of $1 into LLP at its inception on Jan 19 is worth $2.75 today. Imagine that you could have invested some of your capital on Robinhood into Citadel Securities on Day 1 - pretty good deal! We currently have a waitlist of 600 market makers waiting to be onboarded to the API. They are rational economic actors and as long as they positive EV, they will participate. There is no magical rule that you need a "rebate" or that the spread has to be 3bp or any of that - it's just basic marketplace design, supply and demand. If our LLP is able to generate such strong returns, many of these market makers will be able to as well. The ones that can't compete, too bad for them - but it will be a race to the bottom as far as low spreads. There will be a small fee for the market markets (such that they still have positive EV) and a large fee for toxic flow (currently, that kind of flow is rate limited).
