has been one of my best growth channels across almost every project Iâve built.\n\nBut I often hear: âReddit doesnât work.â\n\nTruth is: it does. It just takes patience, strategy, and a lot of trial and error (...lots of error).\n\nHereâs what Iâve learned the hard way:\n\n1. Lead with value. Always.\n\nYour goal? Be helpful. Share real insights. Whether itâs posts or comments, value builds trust. Marketing should be a distance second thought.\n\n2. Pick the right sub. Learn the culture.\n\nEvery subreddit is its own world. Lurk, learn, and contribute before you post. Know what flies and what gets you banned.\n\n3. Use the 5:1 rule.\n\nFor every 1 promo / marketing attempt, make 5 genuine contributions. If I visit your profile and your post / comment history screams self-promo, that's not good. Others will also sniff that out.\n\n4. Nail your title + first 2 lines.\n\nThis is make-or-break and what everyone sees before deciding to click on (or downvote) your post. Study top posts. Avoid links or self promos early in the post. Redditors judge fast.\n\n5. Value first, soft plug later.\n\nRepurpose your best content. Share the goods upfront, then drop a gentle CTA like: âWant more? Check out XYZ.â\n\nFor example: with @AIDevRoundup I create a post with every issue on Reddit, it drives a lot of sign ups every week.\n\n6. Track keywords in your niche.\n\nUse tools to monitor subs for key terms. When the right thread drops, be first with a helpful reply. There are many, many tools that do this, just find one you like.\n\n7. Delete + retry. Seriously.\n\nIf a post flops, tweak it and try again. Iâve had minor edits turn duds into bangers. A slight rewording can easily get you to the front page of a sub.\n\n8. A/B test everything.\n\nTitles, timing, format, tone...experiment constantly. What works in one sub might flop in another.\nReddit rewards effort and authenticity. Youâll bomb a few times, there's no avoiding it, so embrace it.
