My son needs a dental operation. We have a private dentist (cannot get an NHS one) for regular visits and small procedures but they can’t do big operations. So we go with the public sector. I’ve just been on the phone and was told the waiting list is 1 to 2 years. Not months. Years. This is some Soviet BS. I need to find some way to get this done without depending on our failed state.

I am absolutely fine with people choosing not to have children. But if you do that and then become dependent on the state in later life, it is mathematically speaking a free rider problem. Those without children should be diligently saving - they have a lot more spare cash after all - so that they are not dependent on other people's kids being taxed to death when they get older.

I've upset some people, who follow me for space/tech/science, by supporting Israel in the current conflict with Hamas. What did you expect though? Do you think that the society that builds this sort of thing and lives there is going to be a violent, bigoted theocracy like Hamas-run Gaza or a forward thinking liberal democracy like Israel? Which would you prefer it to be? Can you really be a futurist and sympathise with the side whose morality is stuck in the 7th century? To build a bright future the kinds of societies capable of building any kind of future at all need to win out.

This is obviously going to piss a lot of people off. But it addresses a serious problem. Old people without kids claiming money off the state is a classic free rider problem. It can’t be maintained forever. Plummeting birth rates and increasing demands from the old is already dragging the UK down.
