Dear @meijer I’ve recently become aware of an incident involving a young man, James, previously in your employ. There has been speculation this young man has a disability. That withstanding, I must question your approach to this matter. Yes, theft does affect a bottom line. However, is it accurate the “stolen” items were to be discarded? Is it also accurate James retrieved items to consume personally, and not for financial gain? Is it also accurate you were aware he was retrieving discarded items to consume daily, and rather than intervene in a supportive manner, as a concerned employer, you chose to monitor him, over an extended period of time, in order for the value to reach an arrestable offense? I’m curious as to why. You had an opportunity to intercede and support an employee with their food insecurity crisis. Instead, you chose to entrap him and prosecute. If this is your company policy regarding employees, one can only speculate how little you value your customers. Additionally, can you please justify why those who receive taxpayer funded government assistance are offered a discount that is not available to others? As a consumer, I have many options, and will no longer support or patronize your stores.
