I post 60,000 comments while I sleep. First of all we needed 3 things: - Ability to spoof device identifiers (so apps won't see that all our accounts are on the same device) - Ability to save and restore application data (to manage multiple accounts) - Make all this undetectable by an app. To address all of them we needed an undetectable ROOT. And so our journey into Android modification began. We created: - Custom ROOT built from scratch specifically for our automation purposes - Custom Android build to skip phone's initial setup and manage accounts - Each account has its own phone ROM with unique ids Commonly used roots like Magisk are not a good fit. They are unreliable and quite cumbersome to setup and these settings are lost on each reset. Our root implements only basic, necessary features: one executable, init service to launch daemon process, and custom set of SELinux policies. Due to its custom nature and small footprint it is undetectable by apps. Next problem - we found several device ids that are detected by apps to identify the unique user’s phone. Some stay the same with each reset. Others change with each reset. To manage them we used Frida (patches the app at runtime). For certain apps it allows to change the token encrypted by device TPM - we made it unencrypted which makes it consistent between resets to prevent de-logins. Some apps rely on the SIM card's country to detect your region. That's why we emulate the SIM card using data collected from cards from different countries. We built our own adb server (to connect the phone to the PC with TCP). The server gets commands from the PC and directs them to designated phones. Default adb server crashes out entirely whenever there's a connection error with even 1 device (e.g. cable disconnect, lags, etc). Phones were going offline during work because of problems with another phone. Another problem is server freezing or crashing when there's too much data passing through. Memory-safe Rust lang came in handy to create a server without any of these issues. Additionally we developed: - Custom forwarding for better error handling and testing - 20% data throughput performance increase (Mb/s) - Multiple other issues solved Normally, phones are able to pass the internet connection to PC through USB. We made it possible to go the other way, for phones to access the internet through proxy via adb. No wi-fi required. Fun fact: when we were developing the phone loading intro skip, we noticed that the phone makes the screen black for adb to block the vision of what the user is typing in. Turns out you can still interact with the phone, just can't see the screen lol. Though later we found how to skip the intro with a single command (small file change before boot up). Lastly, sometimes the phones just lose connection for no reason. At first we thought we should do a primitive hub restart automation to physically reconnect the phone, but this would've destroyed the performance of other phones. Instead we made a watchdog inside our custom Android that checks if adb connection is live and reboots the phone when it's not. Android has a backbone (like an API through which all the interactions work). We used it to directly control the settings like brightness, volume, etc. We extend the lifespan of the phones by turning the screen off, letting the battery drain to 10% then recharging to 50% and so on. Also turned all the sounds off. Previously our team members had to endure quite a LOT of noise (and trendy brainrot songs sometimes). Another fun fact - one app spies on you so deeply that they check the creation date of your system folders to determine how old is your device. We changed metadata on these folders and got a huge boost in content performance. Now, what do we do with all this? - We create hundreds of accounts - Brand them (bio, name, profile pic, link) - Warmup them and setup the feed for the right content in targeted niche - Post videos And of course, post comments and replies (at a scale of tens of thousands per day). Each comment is unique and generated based on video context and comments by other people. Each reply answers people's questions or starts a conversation. And then - promotes apps, products and pages of our clients. Giving them targeted traffic (such as USA people interested in healthcare). Everything is 100% automated. As a bonus, since we're not commenting randomly and had to analyze each video and its comments - we have data on hundreds of thousands of creators and millions of viral videos, split by niches and industries. We know what video formats, topics and other factors perform in specific markets. This makes it easy to: - Track what competitors and top performing pages are doing - Get custom content plans based on proven viral videos - Find influencers to collab with
