My theory is that a major contributing factor to the rise of all these private members clubs is the deterioration of civil society (and rising crime / declining sense of safety & security) since the pandemic. A part of the allure of these clubs (of which I am a patron, so I'm also projecting here) is that you're buying into a high-trust microcosm. Yes, you pay the money so that you have a place to work, or to network, and meet people and party etc, but also: no one will take your laptop if you leave it on a desk when you take a bathroom break. That same laptop would be gone in 5 minutes at a neighborhood coffee shop, even in a "nice neighborhood." Members clubs offer a lot of things, including replicating... the safety of the suburbs... in the city.

Everyone just belongs to small cults now. Different flavors for everyone, run club cults, chess club cults, longevity qualification of self cults, yoga therapy on rooftops cults, etc. IRL micro cults are like a third order post-pandemic ripple effect.

I lost my mom this morning. She was the most loving, caring, and devoted person I have ever known. I miss her dearly and can’t imagine what life is going to be like without her. She fought so so hard these past couple of years. Logging off for a while, prayers appreciated.

“EV” or any indication that this is an electric vehicle isn’t mentioned a single time in this video. Any mention of EV on their website is well below the fold. It’s outside of their value prop. Their USP is: “It’s a small truck that does truck things. Customizable. And cheap.” This is so refreshing. It feels like it shouldn’t be possible. A potential disruptor in every sense, if they can control pricing and get distribution right (a trad dealer network would be no bueno tbh). Same vibes as when the Model 3 first came out. A bit of disbelief that they seemed to have gotten it right. We shall see…

I have a theory and working thesis that the generational transfer of wealth from boomers to millennials will destabilize social relationships and society at large, because so many people will be inheriting millions, and even more will inherit nothing, or debt.
