Two days ago, I read about the book "Healing back pain" by dr. Sarno in one tweet by @visakanv. I luckily don't have any back pain problems, but my curiosity led me to buy the book on Audible and listen to it. This was actually quite a serendipitous moment because I found the answer to one question which has been haunting me for several months now. Specifically the book gave me an answer to why I have a mild acid reflux which started in the summer last year. It was quite the shock to find the answer in a book called "Healing back pain", especially when I started reading the book completely by accident. We really live in the Matrix, don't we. Just to explain why this was shocking to me. I've done all kinds of tests in the last months to determine the reason for suddenly having acid reflux. By all, I mean.... almost everything you can imagine. The doctor's answer? "Everything looks normal". So until yesterday I didn't have a clear answer as to why I suddenly developed this condition. But the author of the book mentioned several times "If you suffer from back pain or gastrointestinal issues..." 🤯 So everything in the book applies not only to back pain but also the issue I am experiencing! Here are my notes from the book, quite unedited: - The aurhor's claim is that if you suffer from chronic back pain and there is nothing structurally damaged in your back, then the cause of the pain is probably TMS (Tension Myositis Syndrome) - Almost all pain comes from repressed emotions, especially anger. It is quite normal in high achieving individuals or perfectionists. - Oxygen deprivation is caused by the autonomic system. Small blood vessels are constricted, hence depriving body areas of oxygen. - Oxygen is low in patients with fibromyalgia. -Muscle spasm is the first signal of oxygen deprivation. - Points of tenderness in the muscles sometimes persist for life in TMS people unless cured. - 6 points (the outer sides of both buttocks, the lower back on both sides of the spine, top of both shoulders). -They usually persist when the pain is gone. - Regardless of how much oxygen we have in the body, the mind can vasoconstrict certain areas. - What is causing the pain and what is not causing it: - structural abnormality of the spine rarely causes pain - by the age of 20 usually our lumbar discs around L4 and L5 are worn out. - This doesn't cause pain. - Even disc hernias are harmless. - So called "Pinched nerves" - what exactly is causing the pinch? Bone spurs are very common but almost none cause pinched nerves from them. Or herniated discs. - scoliosis - rarely causes any pain. - He goes on to discuss many misdiagnosed causes of back pain which usually turn out to not be the actual cause of pain. - The way to fight TMS is to fight it by continuing all physical activities. The mind tries to make us afraid to do physical excercises. We need to lose that fear. PT must be abandoned because it is a mind issue, not a body issue. - Manipulation, acupuncture, massage, stretching all must be abandoned. - The only thing that is needed is understanding and education on the mechanisms that cause the pain. - 15 min for relaxation and reflection on the following should be done each day: 1. pain is caused by TMS and not a structural abnormalities 2. the direct reason for the pain is mild oxygen deprivation 3. TMS is a mild condition caused by my repressed emotions 4. the principle emotion is my repressed anger 5. TMS exists only to distract me from my emotions 6. since my back is normal there is nothing to fear 7. physical activity is not dangerous i must resume all normal physical activity 8. i will not be concerned or intimidated by the pain 9. i will shift my attention from the pain to emotional issues 10. i intend to be in control not my unconscious mind 11. i must think physiological at all times not physical Conscious acceptance of the above is not sufficient for recovery, it should be understood on an unconscious level.

Who wants to brainstorm a bit with me for the community platform I'm building? I have the following use case, which I wonder how to implement in terms of UX: All people tagged here are just coincidental. Any resemblance with real events, camps, or communities is purely fictional. The use case: @simon_ohler is organizing their next Treeweek 3 event. He wants to host it at a specific existing community, for example, @RichDecibels Casa Tilo. What would be the best way to do that? Option 1: A calendar with existing events already exists on Casa Tilo's page. Simon can select specific dates and request" to host their next event at that community. Rich as the host of the community receives this "request" and can communicate further the details etc. Option 2: Simon and Rich negotiate this relationship outside the platform, and then Rich "invites" Simon to host Treeweek 3 at Casa Tilo for specific dates chosen by them before that. There are probably thousands of other options.... any ideas? What would be the easiest, most straightforward way of doing this?
