I've recently gained many new followers and surpassed the 3,000 followers milestone, so I want to re-introduce myself to all my new followers so you can understand why I do the things I do (plus a bonus for you at the end). I was born in Romania and my family never had a lot of money, even by Romanian standards. My mom divorced my father when I was still only 3 years old. My grandparents who had a big role in raising me always thought I would be destined for great things, so they always encouraged me to study hard in school. I did exactly that, being top of my class for the first 8 years of school, until I got into high-school (with top 2 grades). And then my "rebellious" years started as a teen and I stopped studying as hard. But in high-school I also fell in love with marketing and became obsessed with it. Human psychology fascinated me. After high-school, I got into a private British-Romanian University (not very common in Romania) with a Business Administration major. I was also able to enter in the top 10 in that university through a peculiar admission test they had (it was an IQ test of some kind). My grandpa cried when I told him I got into university - the first of my family. His early efforts to help me succeed (the way he saw it) finally paid off. In the first year of university, I went hard on studying marketing, eating up dozens of marketing and business books in one summer. I was going to the nearby book store in a mall to read them for free, as I had no money as a student. Once I even stayed for 11 hours straight from the opening of the store to closing to read a book there. Because of my intense studying of marketing I was able to first obtain a part-time Marketing Assistant role at a software company, and later a Copywriter role at my first marketing agency. Things were going pretty well for me. Then I found out some news that my mother was witholding from me for the previous few months. My grandpa had cancer, terminal phase, and likely wouldn't have much longer to live. When I visited him, I was shocked at how bad he looked and couldn't contain my tears. His passing some months later took a toll on me as I've always had a hard time imagining my grandparents would pass away one day. And that day came way too quickly. I couldn't focus on university and exams anymore and entered a several year-long depression. But my passion for marketing and business continued, and deep down I've always had one major goal through out all of this - to make my grandpa proud. Over the years I've kept honing my skills, working for different companies and agencies, helping dozens of brands from startups to billion dollar companies like Pediatrix to grow their revenues and profits. The success I've had in my marketing career has allowed me to travel the world from Europe to Mexico and to Asia. This has also been a long-time goal of my, as I've always wanted to experience other cultures and learn from them. Most recently, I've started my own growth marketing agency with my Mexican wife (that's another story for another day). Our first client was able to launch his new subscription business with us and grew from $0 to $50M ARR within only 17 months. He's now launching his second business with us, that I believe we can help grow to $10B+ over the next 5-10 years. I've always liked helping people succeed in their goals, and I've always had high ambitions of my own. Both are character traits that have been instilled in me by my grandparents. Unlike Microsoft, Apple does make an effort to keep data as private as possible. All the new Siri stuff should be processed on-device. And using ChatGPT is a user choice. They've also built the trust for this over time. Microsoft hasn't done that. Quite the opposite.

Yesterday I made a change in an ad account that turned out to be a mistake. Now that I know this, would I still make this kind change that could result in a failure in the future? Absolutely! And I'll do it every single day, multiple times a day. Here's why: 1. Failure is a prerequisite to success. You fail 10 times before you succeed once. But then you can double down on what was successful and grow 10x-100x bigger. 2. Many of these changes are not irreversible and at worst I may lose a bit of efficiency as I test things that fail. 3. The change that I made is similar to the hundreds of changes and tweaks I made in an account last year that allowed it to scale up to from $0 to $150k/day in about a year's time. I wouldn't have been able to achieve anything close to that if I would have been extremely careful and nervous about touching the account and not messing with what worked. This is the kind of thinking we apply to all of the brands we work with and it's part of what allows us to help turn their businesses into the fastest growing in their industry with half the CAC of their competitors.

Technically, a media buyer is someone who deals with ads alone. The definition has already expanded to include creative strategy, which is somewhat acceptable as it's still about the ads themselves, but it wasn't a media buyer's original job to come up with ideas for the ads (E.g. Don Draper wasn't the media buyer). If we include landing pages, then why not include pricing strategy, offer design, merchandising, and a bunch of other things that ultimately help a business? All are important, but I don't agree a media buyer has to know all of those things. That said, the more someone understands the full funnel, the more they can help the business and the more valuable they become to that business. But such a person is also quite rare, more of an exception than the rule. And as such I don't think it should apply to all media buyers. All of those skills are much more easily attained in a team structure than within a single person, which is why growth agencies make a lot of sense for most brands.
