This particular thing stood out in my recent collaboration with @arpit_bhayani.
It was his sense of urgency.
We did an article together called "5 skills to develop to grow from Senior to Staff Engineer".
I reached out to him about the potential collaboration and what kind of article I have in mind and he responded fast with trying to gather as much info as possible about the expectations, guidelines, etc.
I sent him all the guidelines and everything in Google Docs and the next day he prepared the draft with the exact info that was expected!
This kind of sense of urgency is what makes great engineers and also people successful in general.

I built it with React and Gatsby and hosted it on Netlify.\n\nI needed to make sure I was compliant with all necessary regulations (cookies), write my own .md files and I needed to deploy every time.\n\nItâs not a significant effort, but it adds up over time. is how I grew from Team Lead to Engineering Manager.\n\nI grew from Senior Engineer to Team Lead and was leading a team of 5 engineers.\n\nAfter 4-6 months I became an Engineering Manager and went from leading 1 to 3 teams and from 5 to 15+ direct and indirect reports.\n\nI was able to do that because I recognized that my manager of my manager was having problems that I could resolve.\n\nSo what happened?\n\nMy current manager at the time decided to take on a new challenge and change companies.\n\nSo, the role of my manager was open and it was quite a crucial time for the company as we were doing restructuring of teams and also the architecture as well.\n\nHiring a new person would take some time and also getting them up to speed would as well. So, my manager of my manager would need to fill that role until then.\n\nI knew they already had a lot on their plate, so I offered to help them take on more responsibilities.\n\nThey said, they would get back to me and after 3 days, I grew to become an Engineering Manager.\n\nKey takeaway: It was a win-win situation for us both, as I grew in my career and my manager was able to focus on more important things.\n\nP.S. official now -> my newsletter Engineering Leadership is a Bestseller on Substack!\n\nI remember when I used to have my blog on my own platform. I built it with React and Gatsby and hosted it on Netlify.\n\nI needed to make sure I was compliant with all necessary regulations (cookies), write my own .md files and I needed to deploy every time.\n\nItâs not a significant effort, but it adds up over time. And it takes the focus away from writing.\n\nWell, I learned that no matter if I can build it myself or not, it's a LOT better to pick a platform that does the heavy lifting for you, so you can really focus on your writing.\n\nThat's how I eventually moved on from my self-made blog to completely focusing on the newsletter which is on the Substack platform.\n\nThat was about 2 years ago. So, my manager of my manager would need to fill that role until then.\n\nI knew they already had a lot on their plate, so I offered to help them take on more responsibilities.\n\nThey said, they would get back to me and after 3 days, I grew to become an Engineering Manager.\n\nKey takeaway: It was a win-win situation for us both, as I grew in my career and my manager was able to focus on more important things.\n\nP.S. And it takes the focus away from writing.\n\nWell, I learned that no matter if I can build it myself or not, it's a LOT better to pick a platform that does the heavy lifting for you, so you can really focus on your writing.\n\nThat's how I eventually moved on from my self-made blog to completely focusing on the newsletter which is on Substack platform.\n\nThat was about a year ago.
