💯, we tend to be all or nothing with this stuff. Logically we should eat less if not having a fitness routine. But in fact we tend to be inspired to maintain a better diet to not undo our work (and the opposite is true).

True story Quite a few years ago, I was taking down the email address of the older fellow I'd just had a meeting with. He thought it necessary to explain to me that it was Hotmail, not "hot male"... and that none of this was what his doing.

Any other non back end experts out there tried to use AWS? The complexity and sheer amount of options have me beat. Four times I've believed I've stopped/paused/cancelled everything, only to still get bill for the same amount. Now I've opted to delete the test work I was doing. Overwhelming is an understatement! Today we received a cold (very cold) call that was a fairly convincing bot 🤖 Listen 🗣️ 👇 It (she) was offering to help claim compensation for mis-sold finance 💰 It's not hard to imagine the rate of these becoming overwhelming 🫣 Will we need AI VAs to screen out convincing AI robocalls? 📞🤖 Europe might regulate the heck out of it... Excessive use... and many use cases outright are likely to have the opposite of the desired effect, pissing the recipient off. But there are plenty of questionable actors using ineffective tactics and flouting regulation already 🤦 YT is awash with "influencers" who will sell you their multi-million dollar agency model based on creating cold calling bots 🐉 Personally, the only time I want to converse with a bot, is when it's a faster option than waiting in a queue or pressing buttons. It's extremely rare that a cold call makes our day better. Many just introduce a moment of additional unforeseen minor stress. Few humans are truly effective at overcoming initial resistance and conjuring up a natural conversation. So to me, it feels like one of the jobs AI is least likely to be very effective at? Have I got this totally wrong? Let me know...

What < How < Why 🧠 Biggest thing I learned in doing my MSc as a mature student? 👉 You don't need an MSc/degree. It's 10 years ago now, and I didn't use much of the subject matter. My Prof. had never been in industry for even a day. Course titles are just marketing. The instructors' interests have a much bigger bearing on the taught material and its usefulness. Less highly ranked/prestigious universities can be better - as more likely to teach actual useful ("vocational") stuff... stuff that prestigious ones look down on. Cutting edge research and all is great, but in traditional/slow moving/risk averse/high stakes industries, you won't use it for decades... if ever. But there is value in this - in studying "why" rather than just the "how". With a deep understand of the "why", we have a much better shot at seeing new "how(s)". Many professional fields today have become so complex that we engage consultants just to establish the "what" (what are we actually trying to do). Once we know "what", can begin to look at solutions for "how". But we should always pause to ask WHY (especially of consultants!). What < How < Why 🧠
