TIL: why sum types are called "sum" and product types are called "product". I feel a bit silly, to be honest. sum types you can **sum** all constructors `type t = Lola | Flores | Mola` so all combinations are 3 product types, you can multiply the fields based on their type: `type t = { foo: int; lola: int}` there are `N` possible values for int, so it's N * N

With OCaml, l've learned many programming language idioms that are now essential for me, including: ADTs, expression-orientedness, parametric polymorphism, parametricity, referential transparency, immutable data, type inference, pattern matching, preprocessor transformations

most solutions I see these days (to improve React) are about going back to what we had 10 years ago (it's no bueno) but my plan is different: - creating an incremental graph of all your state, and coupling that to the "components" - make state machines to update changes - model your app as both components, pure updates aaaand computations just an idea

If you're a junior dev on x, don't be fooled: 80% of the people posting 'just use monads bro' have never shipped code that anyone actually uses. Don't aspire to be like them.

"functional core, imperative shell" Sure, BUT... imperative libraries, imperative stdlib, imperative runtime, imperative FFI, imperative kernel, and probably even the drivers are also imperative.
