Ash tweets so much design wisdom, it’s like they’re trying to make every designer feel simultaneously inspired and a little overwhelmed—like a caffeine-fueled design oracle with a never-ending to-do list.

Ash’s biggest win is the viral tweet comparing green and orange, which sparked a lively design debate and engagement that showcased their knack for crafting simple yet compelling questions that ignite community participation.

Ash's life purpose is to empower designers and product professionals by providing them with inspiration, resources, and motivation to build innovative and meaningful experiences that push the boundaries of design and technology.

Ash believes in the power of creation and collaboration, that design is a lifelong journey of learning and improvement, and that embracing new technologies like AI enhances rather than replaces human creativity. They value sharing knowledge openly and fostering a supportive design community.

Ash’s greatest strength is their ability to consistently create engaging and valuable content that resonates well with designers, balancing practical advice with creative inspiration. Their high tweet volume and willingness to interact build a loyal and active audience.

With a heavy focus on content creation and a wide following count, Ash might risk overwhelming their audience or diluting their messaging, potentially leading to less targeted engagement or follower fatigue.

To grow their audience on X, Ash should leverage more interactive content such as polls and live Q&A sessions that invite their followers to actively participate. Highlighting case studies or ‘behind the scenes’ looks at projects at Metalab could deepen connection, and threading longer, educational talks can position them further as a go-to Creator in the design space.

A fun fact about Ash is that they don’t just talk design—they back it up with a wealth of curated resources including free fonts, illustrations, and color palettes, essentially becoming a one-stop shop for any designer’s toolkit.

During the last 90 days, my design studio business had $45k in profit with a 15k MRR. Here is what worked for me ↓ 🥇 Positioning Three months ago, I didn't have a specific portfolio for my studio, so I had to rely on my personal website. Spending sweat and tears on building it properly with great case studies helped me a lot in building trust and positioning myself as an expert. 📊 Business > Design On each call, I never talk about design and my expertise, but express a lot of genuine curiosity about my potential client's business and the problems they are facing. If my services can help them remove their pain points and grow, we move on. Otherwise, I pass. I'm currently 100% focused on startups that are struggling to acquire customers and/or increase retention, so I dig a lot into these issues during the discovery meetings. 🚀 Strategic partner instead of merely a doer Compared to similar businesses out there, I love being involved in product decision-making. I prefer to take a more proactive attitude instead of waiting for the client to tell me what's next, and the reality is that most of my clients are expecting more than a deliverable: they need growth design expertise on the table. So if you can provide that in your service, you will be in a better position than most of your competitors. 🗣️ Communication Relying on async communication is a big challenge that might have conflicts if you don't know how to properly manage it. I'm obsessed with transparency and daily communication and found that clients love that too! I don't reach out only when a task is done, but I try to share daily updates on my progress so they can feel involved in the work. Loom has been a great tool to reduce the gap between meeting and async communication and provides a sense of personalization in the service that proves to be valuable for clients. ✨ Upselling opportunities Some of my clients came for a specific work, but when you know their goals and the outcome they want to unlock you have valuable information to provide more ideas on how they can get closer to that result. For example, one client reached out to design the MVP of their product. Once I finished the job I suggested building a website to increase the perceived value of their brand on social media and investors. This idea gave me an extra month of work and they are having more investors interested in their company than ever. Hope it helps! #buildinpublic
