tough pill to swallow but our brains can't truly understand certain topics. even the fathers of these fields don't understand how they work. it's a fools errand to try to do so. unless you want to devote your life to it. otherwise just use them to invent things.

i've always operated with a 2x safety margin with deadlines, costs, etc basically assume that i'm 2x more optimistic than reality. 4x sounds kinda wild, but when you're dealing with potential ruin and such large projects and budgets it sounds completely reasonable.
