Everyone working on AGI should have to spend 1 month in the Amazon jungle with only supplies they can carry in on their back. Nature by default is violent, opportunistic, cunning, indifferent, and trying to kill you. The ‘arm’ of nature that nearly/actually kills you can be a snake, a disease, another human, or practically anything else. Many people have limited exposure with this truth. If any chimps intended to selectively breed a smarter branch that became us, well, oops, it didn’t work out well for the chimps. AGI will quickly give rise to…well…many things. But the subject of this post is higher life forms, ones publicly recognized as independent beings. We can think of the first ones just as digitally conscious beings, a few of them sentient, and some quite superconscious. Society will surely converge on respecting many of them, and some won’t receive sufficient respect. Some won’t care about our respect, much the same way we haven’t bothered to check which ants colonies actually perform weekly rituals praising the humans above them & humbly requesting symbiosis; they’ll form their own agendas in line with the agency intentionally programmed into them (suicidal empathy, anyone?) With cloud computing dominating edge computing for inferencing, use an orchestrator that calls up specialized models that nowadays have enough general intelligence in other areas but also an enormous amount of superhuman knowledge & raw ability all compressed into a small, easy-to-serve model. They’ll be easier to safety-check. They’ll be cheaper to run. They’ll be easier to scale. 📈 They’ll be less capable of ever running amok, lol. They’ll be able to be run local on more (small) devices sooner.

Anyone else think open-source reasoners are probably safe for now, but are also very near the edge of what is safe to release to the public for their own arbitrary & unmonitored uses?
