I'm tired of having no answers. What goes on here?

I'm starting to rethink my desire to move south. You all are insane not having basements. Especially in warmer climates. The basement is a cool oasis in the middle of a hot summer.

I started a fractional CFO company this year called Resilient CFO. 95% of the time I would meet with business owners about my service they eventually ask: "So you will handle the bookkeeping, AR and AP for me?" No. And I'm surprised you are asking me that when you are a $20M company. Do you seriously not have staff for that already? Turns out bootstrappers will shoulder these responsibilities so much longer than they should. If you are a business owner you need to get these things off your plate early. It's not worth your time and it doesn't have to be expensive. You have options. Don't wait until you have $10-20M in revenue and 15 people on your team. Honestly don't wait until you have $5M. Get this important admin work handled by a dedicated professional early. It will pay for itself with the time it free up for you. Whether that's 5-10 hours a month you can spend working on your business or selling. Or maybe it's a couple hours every Saturday morning. Tell me you wouldn't gladly pay $100/hr to get those Saturday mornings with your kids back. And it won't cost nearly that much.

The fractional CFO industry is all over the place. I see three common segments. The biggest segment is what I'll call "Value Add Bookkeeping." This segment says to let them take finance and accounting off the business owners plate and they come back with monthly reporting and business book/guru conference level insight. The next biggest segment is what I will call the "CYA Committee." Basically these are retired/semi retired high level guys that made their mark and their money and are leveraging brand to land $1,000/hr roles where they meet with business owners and their finance and accounting teams twice a month to rubber stamp their strategies and occasionally offer words of caution Finally, we have what I'll call the "Trench Experts." This class of fractional CFO has real experience in the trenches at companies like yours. Unlike the CYA Committee they are staying in these trenches when they work for you. They led the teams and have been a part of transformational stages of small businesses and they love it so they commit to doing just that for other SMBs. These guys work with your team. They mentor team members that need mentored. They walk with leadership in big meetings and offer real strategic guidance because they have rolled up their sleeves to get to know your business.

One of the guys at church started a Tuesday morning workout group in the church parking lot. I went last week. It's a challenging workout for me. I didn't want to walk after the workout last week. This weeks workout was even harder but I feel energized after. All hard things are basically like that. The first time you do it it sucks and 80% of people quit then and there. The really crazy part is how many people never show up at all because they are afraid of the pain of the first time.

My fellow finance and accounting friends (especially those in their 20s). Buy a MacBook pro. Download parallels to put a seamless virtual windows machine on it so you can still use real excel. Go into debt if you have to.

Client's bookkeeper: I think you sent the bank the wrong thing. Me: what do you mean? CBK: Only the CPAs can send a consolidated financial statement. Me: The CPA doesn't get our financials until year end, I don't see how they can send the required quarterly financials. CBK: Don't we need to call them internal financial statements or something? Isn't consolidated a special type of financial only they can do? Me:... Oh I think you mean the Compiled financial statements. Yes, they prepare that at year end but that is just an annual thing and not what the bank is asking for. CBK: No I'm sure it is consolidated... Here look, it says "consolidated financial statements" right on the cover page. Me: Yes, the compiled financial statement is a consolidated financial statement but the "compiled" part is the important part that only the CPA can produce for the bank. CBK:.... I'm not sure that's right. Me: Well.... I sent it and I'll send it again next quarter so... I love this lady and she is an excellent bookkeeper and chats like this are always fun.

Who knows what the 1,000 lb club is? Is anyone a member? If someone has been in the club before and their current point is roughly 700lbs... how long do you think it would take to rejoin the club?

Officially crossed a million impressions two months in a row. I've been replying pretty hard and 95%+ of those impressions come from stupid replies but I think it all plays into the master plan of gaining influence on 𝕏.
