I turned down a federal government job offer. Something most undergraduates/ graduates would dream of, handed to me on a platter of gold. But I sat in my Dean’s office and told her, “I’ll think about it.” And yes! she looked at me like I had lost it. The confirmation came again during my convocation, this time everyone heard about it. Calls started coming in from Lagos: “Have you accepted the job yet?” “You can’t let this opportunity go.” “The country is hard.” The pressure came. The critics came. But I made a deal with myself: Give Web3 two months. Make it work, or walk away. I cut down my real-life distractions and went all in. Two months passed… Still broke. Still no wins. Still uncertain. But I wasn’t ready to quit. So I started again — this time, with clarity. I picked one thing and gave it everything: Writing about DeFi, personal branding, and good writing principles. Then on December 17th, I made $30 and it felt like a lot. For me, it was proof that something was clicking. In January, I doubled down. Landed an ambassador role and earned $300 from it. And just like that, I found my moment. The confused guy with a first-class degree and a pending government job finally had clarity. Not because the world handed it to me but because I carved it out myself. Now, I have: → Written about 70+ DeFi concepts → Gotten referred to jobs I didn't qualify for, but over delivered in → Built (still building) a personal brand → Maintained a 8-month content consistency streak → Continued yapping about @TheoriqAI 😌 → Connected with great minds in the web3 space. I'm not where I want to be yet, but I'm grateful for my journey so far. The truth is… I am DavyCrypt, a content writer and brand ambassador. Web3 has always been easy for me. Everyone was willing to teach me. I had so many resources at hand. Three skillset, huge capital to start any investment, web3 was so easy. But that was never the story of this 26-year-old first class graduate. I had it all in the opposite way. Rounded up my 5-year studies in October 2024 with no knowledge of web3, no solid digital skill, and nobody to spoon-feed me. As a matter of fact, I just had me, a brother who believed I could pull it off and a friend that never stopped pushing me to do more. I took a bet on myself and said “In 3 months' time, if I don't see results from this, I'll go back to Lagos.” And tbh, in 3 months, nothing significant happened. Frustration hit. Depression crept in. Giving up was the next logical step. But I just held it a little longer and then it started to shift. → Won my first thread content → Won my second, third, fourth… → Got an ambassador role → Secured a job → Got recommended for a job → Built (and still building) a brand → Got a skill and upskill (still in that arc) The journey was never easy but it was worth the shot. They just want to get the money real quick and leave. More than 90% of the projects launched on pump.fun don't last for 3 days.  But let's talk about utility projects for a sec… How do you build that trust for the long-term? I've done 1 thing for the past 360 days! I kept saying the same thing over and over. Even when I didn't get any result, I continued. Most of the people I started with left Web3 due to the chaos, but I stayed. Ngl, I went into a depression phase for a while. I was tired, overwhelmed, and exhausted, as I made 0$ during my first 3 months. The calls from home made it worse as I was done with my 5 year course: “Won't you come home? You can start doing something before NYSC” Everything sucked! But my grits said no! I had developed a “delusional audacity” to keep going even when things were tough. And truthfully, it wasn’t just grit that saved me. I was surrounded with love… My “Acha” always had words of encouragement to keep me going. My brother always reminded me that I’d get those results soon. My designer/ my web3 wife😌 (@OnyxofWeb3) constantly pushed me to keep going at all costs. Grits, love, discipline… These has been what pushed me so far. It's almost one year and each time I look back at the journey, I can't help but be grateful. A pen, a designer, and a working brain… That’s the tweet! That’s my mantra! That’s our secret! You know how you meet one person and life just changes and the journey becomes smoother? Well, this is the story of how this designer changed this writer’s journey I met this green panda boy (@OnyxofWeb3) when he was trying to be a writer and designer (for reasons only God knows). His writings? Oh well… let's not talk about that. His designs? A little good 👀 But one thing I noticed was his sheer consistency. Amidst his twerk writings and goofy designs, he was still showing up. We were in the same 21-days consistency challenge with @VikTorSmart_ and I kept noticing his content everyday. So I went into his DM: “Bro, I noticed your bio says you're a graphic designer but your TL doesn't say much about that.” Btw… At the time, we both had less than 200 followers. So, we were both newbies finding our way in web3. I've forgotten the response he gave that day but here's one thing I clearly remember. I told him “How about I focus on the writings and you focus on crafting the designs?” There I was… no expertise in my skill, no reason to believe I could do it, but somehow, he believed in me (for reasons I still don’t know). Long story short… We started collaborating for over two months and made a grand total of… $0. No evidence of success, no spark of reward but I remember what he said when we decided to start working together: → “Let’s do this for the growth, not the wins. If the wins come, awesome. But if they don’t, let’s still push. Let’s strive to be a voice in the space that people look up to.” It's been one year since I slid into the DMs of that green panda boy and what can I say? Together, we have: → Defied the laws of newbies (if there's something like that. Haha!) → Won bounties/ grants/ contests through our craft → Gotten jobs together → Referred each other to jobs → Grown massively → Created communities of writers and designers individually → Made me become an official @SuperteamNG and core @scribble_dao member And some other things I can't mention here… Truthfully, we haven't gotten half way to our goals yet. My takeaway? Never look down on anyone, especially when they're starting out. I've always wondered what would have happened if he snubbed my dm or if I felt he was not good enough. Maybe there would never have been “a pen, a designer, and a working brain.” I remember sending DMs to designers that started out the same time I did and many of them either ignored or gave one excuse. Funny how some of them want a collab now. This right here is the story of how two guys dared each other, pushed each other, and grew from friends to brothers… PS: I still win him when we play chess on @AnichessGame A pen. A designer. Best graduating in the department! Best graduating in the faculty! First class in the bag! Had my final year project work published and sponsored by an international company. Had many certifications and achievements to my name while I was student but still… I said I'll think about it when the federal government job offer came. Maybe I'm the most daring person I know! But here's what my craziness led me to: I focused on one thing from October 3rd 2024 till now. Doubled down on building my brand Got inbounds to jobs I never qualified for but over delivered in (And yes! Constantly using @HeyElsa 🙂‍↔️) The results? Oh well… Maybe I'll tell you when I clock 365 days here (next week). But here's my biggest lesson so far: You can get everything you want when you put in the work. Success never comes from a particular pattern (especially the one that schools construct for us).
