"Learn something once and you'll earn for a lifetime." The first time I heard this it stopped me in my tracks. Often when we're learning a new skill we'll go through the motions, doing just enough for competency but not realizing how it can serve us across our professional lives. I remember my first series of jobs as a teenager. Grocery bagger. Auto part delivery driver. (I grew up fast.) These taught me structure. How to interact with customers and how different moving pieces work within a business. From there I started selling at a Fortune 500 company. Within 30 days I was a top 5 producer on 100 person team. At the time, I didn't think I was that special. I've just always known how to relate to different walks of life. I carried myself the same way selling a business owner 20k worth of auto parts as I did with the techs I'd deliver the products to on my weekly route. One of the greatest things you can do in your lifetime is learn how to understand and relate with as many different types of people as you can. As you get older, you truly begin to realize how these experiences compound. Trips you go on, jobs that felt insignificant when you're younger, all of these experiences build on each other and transform employees in the work place or entrepreneurs starting their own business. Learning how to bag groceries taught me how to be curious enough to talk to people. (I was bored.) Learning how to talk to people got someone to give me a chance on the phones at a Fortune 500 company. Learning how to utilize my worldview and be my authentic self allowed me to connect with people from all over the world and consistently have 5 figure days in my first corporate sales role without a college degree.
