Farez is so busy building indie businesses that he might need to hire someone to build a business that manages his other businesses.

Consulting work has taken a toll on my SaaS products. Finally have some time to breath and plan. Here's my immediate focus for this year. Primary focus Grow @PopInvoice. Invoicing is boring, but our customers here are the stickiest by far. They've been around for years. And we have a long list of requests to work on. Side projects 1. @BunniAI: It's been a profitable experiment and customers love our credits-based pricing plan, at least to start with. The largest credit pack purchased was for 10,000 credits for $135. AI is a tough game, so I'll be niching down. Going to test Bunni on being a universal summariser tool for all sorts of use cases. 2. @DatePopApp: Our free lead generator tool for @PopInvoice has taken a life of its own! Added a @buymeacoffee to see if anyone would pay and earned $200 in donations. And lots of feedback, which showed that people cared. So I'm going to release some premium features to it. Experiments Some new ideas I'll be testing. 1. A simple "What's New" tool for SaaS. Manage "what's new" announcements on your SaaS with Notion as the CMS. One line of Javascript to embed the tool into your site. I'm actually building this for myself! 2. @markfolder PRO. Bookmark any link and have automation + AI recipes run on it. This is an old SaaS that'll I'll be dusting off and reviving with the new automation and AI features. 3. Database tools for Notion. Businesses that use Notion lack a lot of professional database tools. This will be a sort of "swiss army knife" for managing Notion databases.

This is my weekly #buildinpublic update on building my AI product, Bunni.ai. Last week I worked on refocusing Bunni.ai to address a specific problem and market segment more effectively. Moving away from my habitual build-first approach, I decided to lead with marketing and customer development strategies, emphasising SEO and the creation of free tools to expand my user base. Finding Inspiration I found a helpful article on IndieHackers by Sveta Bay, who talked about building and launching free AI tools to get more leads. I decided to try something similar. But this time, instead of doing it all myself as usual, I asked ChatGPT for help with my marketing and product plans. Bringing ChatGPT on Board I gave ChatGPT the article link and some details about my app. Then, I asked for a strategy for marketing and product development, along with some tasks I could start on right away. (See attached images for ChatGPT's recommendations) Getting Insights from Customers ChatGPT instructed me to do 2 things in order to gain customer insight: 1. Send out a survey 2. Analyse my data For the survey: - I got ChatGPT to create the questionnaire questions. I put that into Google Forms. - I got ChatGPT to draft the email. - I emailed out the survey to my users who opted in. For analysing customer data: - Again, I used ChatGPT, this time as my data analyst. - I exported the relevant tables from my database that contains usage data (without any identifying user data). - I uploaded it to ChatGPT. - Then asked it to summarise the data, to give me some categories of usage, ordered by frequency. What I Found Out The survey results and data analysis gave me a clear direction to take my app in. They showed that academic researchers are my main users. And they use Bunni to manage their heavy workload. AI is the solopreneur’s secret weapon Was the above a perfect plan? Who knows. Who cares! Marketing is all about testing and iterating. So my guess is as good as ChatGPT's. But AI saved me hours or even days of research. It allowed me to take the next step without overthinking, and with confidence. What a time to be alive as a solo entrepreneur. Next Steps Now that I know who my users are and what they need, I can make Bunni even better for them and focus my marketing more effectively: - Research keywords to target - Build and launch free AI tools for them - Upsell to the free tool users

What I'm looking forward to: 1. Learning from others, especially on marketing and growth. 2. Giving back, where I can. 3. Taking notes on how @arvidkahl builds in public :) 4. Helping each other 100x our launch and iteration speed. 5. Building long-term friendships.

Moving @BunniAI's backend to @render has been relatively painless so far. And I'm not even a "real" Python developer. 🔥

🌟 Exciting Updates from Living Journal Pro! 🌟 Hello, everyone! I wanted to share some improvements I've been working on for livingjournal.pro, the journaling app that I launched just over a week ago during the bold.new hackathon. ✨ **Enhanced Security**: Your privacy is top priority. I've implemented robust encryption, meaning that even if anyone were to access the database, they wouldn't be able to see your private writings or any personalised advice generated for you. While no system is completely foolproof, I’m confident that these measures will keep your data safe. ✨ **Improved Convenience**: Say goodbye to the save button! Now, everything you write will auto-save, making your journaling experience smoother and more efficient. Less clicking, more writing! I'm genuinely excited about the potential of Living Journal, and I use it daily. I encourage you all to try it out for jotting down notes, seeking AI-generated advice, and anything else that inspires you. Your feedback is invaluable as I continue to enhance the app, so please don’t hesitate to share your thoughts! @boltdotnew

livingjournal.pro update: 🚀 User data encryption All journal entries, generated advice, contexts, and API keys are encrypted at rest. My goal is privacy by default. Even for free users. There will be more to do on security and privacy, but it's always a balance between how secure you want things vs performance. Maybe this is a sliding scale I can offer users. But for now, your data is safe, should anyone get access to the app's database.
